    season is about done

I don't know if this is entirely correct, but herps = reptiles. I haven't seen my buddy the black rat snake (the one I rescued over the the summer) in a while, so I guess he's hunkered down somewhere for the winter. He ought to be stuffed-the field mice have all but dissapeared from under my shed!

    Batsto Mansion funding

Root cellars/cold storage maybe? Also, Wharton was quite a wealthy man-I'd imagine he kept some fine wines around. How big are the tunnels? Big enough for an average height man to walk through? How are they held up? I'd imagine that the ground isn't very conducive to tunneling. Did they...

    Batsto Mansion funding

It was actually an older man who was also very knowledgable and very nice. He was originally from North Jersey (Bloomingdale) which I found out after the tour. Do tell!

    Batsto Mansion funding

No droppings that I saw-just a clear view for miles. It also looks as though everything had a relatively recent coat of paint as well. Does anyone know if you can actually see Atlantic City if you look to the east or was that just my imagination? It was a pretty clear day and I could make out...

    Batsto Mansion funding

I don't know how many of you read my post about last weekend, but I took my girlfriend down to Batsto after the cranberry festival since it was such a nice day. We took a tour with really nice elderly guy who was a great guide. Overall the mansion looks to be in great shape on the inside...

    new JD site launched....

Interesting, my buddy who's a cop in Pemberton :siren: was telling me about how the Bloods, Crips, and Latin Kings had all gained footholds down there. So we have to worry about motorcycle gangs and neo-nazis too huh? Wonderful... Anyway, Ben I guess I agree with you somewhat...

    new JD site launched....

That's all I'm saying. Ben is right about the history of the pines, and the body dumps, etc... Hey by the way what "organizations" did the ranger mention? I'm assuming they were of the Blood and Crip variety? However, I think talking about the history of Hessian and British deserters along...

    new JD site launched....

Taken from the "Devil Land Site" or whatever it's called... "People from outside of the area may use a derogatory term of “pineys” when referring to the locals. This was and is a place of refuge for law-breakers and people that otherwise wish to be conceiled. Driving through, you will find...

Weekend trip report - Cranfest, Batsto, Washington's Crossing...

Ben was right...meh... The festival reminded me of Columbus Farmer's Market on a Saturday. About 70% of the vendors are supporting the Chinese economy by offering worthless trinkets. That being said, we did have a nice day. We ended up parking quite a ways away because we got there...

    Wharton Wheelin'

I'll hijack once again, what the hell. Is 4 wheel drive a requirement for the cleanup? I have a 2WD S10 which I'd be more than happy to fill up with junk, but I don't want to be a burden to everyone else by constantly getting stuck either. I haven't been to Wharton in quite a while, and I...

    Cranberry Festival 2006

Ok so the girlfriend saw the Cranberry Festival last year on Food Network so now we're going this weekend. I did a search for posts and found a few that said it was a little on the cheesy side, but I'm hoping that its a nice day and that the band is good. I missed the Jamboree because I had to...

    Hessian Burials

If I were you I would contact Rob Andrews' office. He was a co-signer of Crossroads and may not even know about the site. At the very least the person in his office who handles historic preservation could probably point in the right direction if its not too late.

    Hessian Burials

Hey congratulations and good luck to you! The Crossroads legislation is a HUGE step forward for Revolutionary war sites in New Jersey history, which have played second banana to places like Boston and Philadelphia for way too long. New Jersey deserves to be recognized! It's a big source of...

    Cranberry Harvest

Wow, very cool pics! I'm going to the harvest festival either Saturday or Sunday, I don't know yet. I'd like to make it to cleanup day too, so we'll see.

The "Nanny State" continues it's rampage on it's citizens

I think Boyd's got it right. I for one am more concerned about the fact that the psuedopedrine (or whatever it is) is made overseas instead of here. Democrats (of which I am included) spend too much time crying about civil liberties and too little time calling attention to the fact that...

    Country Living Fair

Damn...here I sit at work, where I'll remain until 2:00, but hey, someone has to open the rink-might as well be me. It's more fun than my real job. Anyway, I'm with Scott, and by the way, if you like antique equipment you've got to hit the state fair next year. I went for the first time this...

    Pine Barrens Jamboree 10-14-06

I'm desperately hoping to go almost for the live pines bluegrass alone, but once again I may have to work over the weekend...First the decoy and gunning show and now this! Hopefully I'll find out today what's happening.
