    Colliers Mills in May

Jeez, I'm learning more and more about Colliers Mills all the time-where exactly is the golf course?

    History Channel segment about Hindenburg

The History Channel is running a program about "Days that Shook the World" and they had a segment about the Hindenburg. Pretty neat to see Lakehurst mentioned on TV, especially when you figure that most people say to themselves "where the hell is Lakehurst, NJ?" Anyway, one of the more...

    2 Great Swamps

I have seen it but not yet done any exploration. Its a pretty large area, but a lot of it is off limits as its the property of the Newark City Waterworks. Its a typical hardwood swamp, but off of JFK Parkway by the Short Hills Mall there are some very nice views. My girlfriend used to babysit...

    Secession!?

Thats not too bad...I'm actually familiar with the route, but I've never had the pleasure of driving it at rush hour. I take the Turnpike to 11 and get off the Parkway at 145 to 280 West to get to my school. Right now I'm looking at maybe getting a job in Cedar Grove so I'd have to take 280 to...

    Secession!?

If I can find it...stupid me didn't back up any of my files and *poof* one day last year gremlins invaded my laptop causing me to need a new hard drive. I think I still have the hard copy somewhere though. One of these days I'll get around to retyping it because I'd like to get all that stuff...

    Secession!?

Actually I forgot to touch on a subject in my original post that you guys will get a kick out of. Sophomore year I took New Jersey History (its required of all social studies education majors in the state) and what a joke that was. It was like the southern part of the state didn't exist! We...

    Colliers Mills trip "feeler"

How does July 10th sound? I know its kinda far in advance, but my work schedule is set in stone until then. I work at an ice rink so the bulk of my weekends are tied up, but since its so far in advance I can make arrangements.

    Secession!?

Thanks guys, my girlfriend thinks my south Jersey pride borders on lunacy at times. It's nice to feel validated...lol

    Colliers Mills trip "feeler"

Just trying to gauge the interest of a hiking trip to Colliers Mills. Ben's article got me thinking about how much there really is to see out there. I don't know what we might come across as far as ruins (I've never come across anything really, but then again I mostly stuck to the roads), but...

    Secession!?

How is the commute? I'm going to be applying for teaching jobs next year and I'm finding that for the most part all of the good salaries are up here, but there's no way I'll live up here. I'm assuming you take the Turnpike?

    Secession!?

Actually there was a more recent movement-I checked it out in an old New Jersey Monthly I thought I had thrown away. There was a guy named Joel Jacovitz who headed what he called "The Committee to Free South Jersey." During the 1980 election they actually got a non-binding referedum on the...

    Secession!?

This is sort of a humorous observation but it is serious in a way. I'm only 23 so I wasn't around when people proposed splitting New Jersey into two seperate states (it was in the late 70s right?), but having grown up in what is arguably south Jersey and now living in north Jersey it's...

    Union Clay Gun Club

Oops, not really what I meant. I just meant that most on this board seem more into exploration, hiking, and other things. I've just not seen that many discussions regarding hunting in the WMAs and whatnot. Of course I'm almost conditioned to hear an anti-hunting response. Most of my friends...

    Union Clay Gun Club

The deer and those of us who hunt them (and pheasants too), which I understand isn't all that popular on this board. Are there any hunters besides myself and RednekF350?

    Colliers Mills Hike

Very cool...I definitely would like to get out there myself as I've been to Colliers Mills countless times and never seen that spot.

    Union Clay Gun Club

Scary people? Do tell. Once I was fourwheeling with a group through Wharton and we came upon some guys who looked like they were cutting firewood and not very happy that we were there. We were certain we were on state land (our guide was very experienced) and I don't really know the rules on...

A Snapping Turtle and a Spotted Turtle

I'm trying to remember this nature show that I saw a while ago on Animal Planet. They were in the Bayous of Louisiana talking about "Alligator Snapping Turtles" which sound a lot like what you saw. Would such a turtle be found in this area or was that simply a HUGE regular snapper? My great...

    Vehicle crashes into Wawa store

Oh how I miss Wawa...You guys don't know how lucky you are living down there. Up here in the north people think that seven eleven has good coffee-blech! When I lived in south Jersey a trip to Colliers Mills or Wharton wasn't complete without stopping at Wawa for some coffee or a hoagie.
