    New Jersey trails plan

This is pertaining to the rivers in Wharton: Needs: Although access and parking areas may be considered primitive, it is the nature of the environment and the quality of the wilderness experience, which are priorities, especially along the Lower Atsion and the Batsto. Recommendations...

    The Mullica

Yes. Started out fine as they had just graded. Further down the soft sandy spots seemed softer and sandier, if that's possible. Put it in 4x4 and low a couple of times. Steve

    The Mullica

That's OK Bob. I thought maybe you didn't see me. The truck behind you, which was not with your group, stopped because he thought I was in trouble with all that honking and all. There is a HUGH savanna along the Mullica not too far west of Constable Bridge. We should check it out some day. Steve

    The Mullica

That first dam gave me the most trouble. I had gotten out and climbed up on the dam. That was the easy part. I had a heck of a time pulling my kayak up and over. Trying to keep my balance with one hand on the dam and pulling the kayak with the other, every time I let go of the kayak to re-grip...

    The Mullica

Well I've spent some time on the Mullica these past two weekends. Last weekend I put in at Lock's Bridge and paddles up-stream 2 miles. Along the way I passed a group of folks that belonged to the Liberty Canoe Club out of the Trenton area. They claim to be the oldest club in NJ. This weekend...

Saw this fellow on the bank of the Mullica on Saturday. He was about a foot long and was sneaking up on a toad or frog. He didn't seem to mind me taking photos.

    Gotta' Question

What Ben said. I'll get out and test the depth of the puddle with a stick also checking for firmness of the road below it. After you spend more time in the Pines you will get to know which puddles are OK to go through and which to avoid. Why Ben bought that Rubicon, I have no idea. :mrgreen...

    Rt. 70 and 72

I'm not sure where you mean on Rt.70 but along Rt.72 it was the original road to Long Beach Island. It was called Rt. S-40. Rt.70 used to be called Rt.40. My mom says it was a black top single lane road and it used to take her family about 3 to 4 hours to get to LBI from Pennsauken. Today I...

    Replacing Bridge on Carranza

Well there are many ways into Wharton. You could come up Speedwell-Friendship Rd off of 563. That of course brings you to Friendship where the bridge is under construction. You can also enter from Atsion or Batsto too. Steve
