    Dodged a bullet last night....

As I was leaving for work this morning I ran into a tree guy that was looking at the tree. Happens that I know him from school days. He looks over the situation and tells me he doesn't wan to get involved in it because he would have to get a crane in there and is worried about collateral damage...

    Dodged a bullet last night....

It was small compared to the one we took out when we first moved here. And you're right, they grow like weeds. I'm constantly pulling them up and they have a peppery smell. Steve

    Forked River Mountains

Good public transportation in South Jersey? Are you serious? It's 7.5 mile by road and trail or 5.25 miles as the crow flies and I can almost guarantee that you won't see a bus. Steve

    Dodged a bullet last night....

Never heard that term but I suppose that is what it was. There was no outward sign of decay that I recall but looking into the stump I could see it was decayed. It was an Alanthis(sp?) and I'm not too sorry to see it go. As tasty as the Mulberries are I kinda wish it was the Mulberry tree that...

    Dodged a bullet last night....

...but my neighbor wasn't so lucky. The fence in the photo is mine so I was lucky it did not fall the other way. Steve

    Immigrant Workers of the Pines.

Thanks for posting the photos Ariadne. I love old photos. The brick pillars in this photo were apparently very common for developments. I wander if they could be the ones off of Ringler Rd on the way to Apple Pie Hill. Steve

    Snow in the Pines

They are nice shots. What camera and what settings did you use? I got out there but did not have as much luck. Not a great shot but this is what I found when I got to Penn Swamp on Quaker Bridge Rd. There were fresh tracks so someone was able to get by earlier but I guess they got heavy...

    Careful what you say!

Ok, the law may need to be tweaked some but is it really a bad idea? Steve Behrens ~ who doesn't want to annoy anyone.

Ton's of hawks in the suburbs

Report it to the New Jersey Audubon Society. As far as your numbers go, it's hard to say if you are seeing multiple birds or the same ones over again. Steve

    golden eagle

A very rare sighting indeed. Very rare but not unheard of. If it looked like the photo below though it could have been a third year Bald Eagle. Did you see it soar? Note how eagles keep their wings in line with their body when they soar. Other large birds of prey will have their wings raised...
