    Brigantine NWR/Holgate

46er: Thanks for posting. Wonder if anyone will monitor the area to see what new growth shows up, how well new vegetation covers the sand, how long it takes for new growth to show up, etc.?

Ouch! ... though I admit I feel that way sometimes.

    Shreveville

Bob, I believe the derelict brick building at the creek was originally part of the Shreve's water powered cotton mill in the 1840's, but the question probably could more positively be answered at the presentation. Jerseyman a lot better person to query. I do know that the mansion was built by...

    Where is this?

Area to the east of Martha Furnace? Or is that the area Al mapped? The Carex pensylvanica looks familiar.

    Martha Bridge

Saw a sign on the sand road leading out of the parking lot for the start of the Batona Trail off Stage Road: "Martha Bridge 7.7 miles". Puddles on road too daunting for our new Escape. So, where is Martha Bridge? It's not on my Delorme map.

    Concrete Ship

There’s a ton of information on the web, “concrete ship ‘Atlantus'”, including pictures over time, ship dimensions, etc. 12 such ships built during WW1, proved impractical because of weight. This one broke free in 08 June 1926 storm from its mooring and beached; couldn’t be retrieved. It was...

    Concrete Ship

Ro & I were on a birding/photography trip along the coast - Avalon to Cape May - last Sunday. We stopped at Cape May Point - only a few Herring Gulls. The concrete ship wreck is slowly disappearing, so we took pictures to record it as of January 2016.

    2015 Eagle & Peregrine Reports

We monitor it from 206 with binoculars since we travel that road several times a week. You can get a closer look by going into the paved parking lot for the County Park at the north end, off Jacksonville-Jobstown Rd., but still not really close. When there were eagles in a nest there signs...

    2015 Eagle & Peregrine Reports

Smoke Jumper: same park, west side of 206 in Springfield Twp. Eagles built the new nest but it looks like they need schooling in mechanical engineering..... They've apparently abandoned it; maybe they decided it wasn't a good job. Tree hasn't much good places left for big nest.

    2015 Eagle & Peregrine Reports

We watched the nest on the north end of the Burlington County Park for several years, until it came down in a wind storm in ear;y 2015. State was contacted, person came out, said fledglings on the ground were big enough to survive. A new nest was built. precariously, last year but this year...

    The Isaac Haines Stone

Thanks Al. I'd forgotten that the usual GPS is "good" only to 10 or 15 feet, obviously NG for surveys. The problem with our survey had to do with the errors in the tax map, which worried the surveyor, not me. It's the same tax map that omits a piece of property that I tried for 30 years to...

    The Isaac Haines Stone

Questions for Guy and Manumuskin: How close are the GPS locations for the stones to the deed positions? Are the differences due to people moving the stones or differences between the old survey and the GPS locations? When we had a property surveyed 30+ years ago the surveyor (RIP) asked at...

    New bolds Corner NIKE Site

OJI questioned if the warhead was nuclear and mentioned Boeing BOMARC. According to Wikipedia, the U.S. Army Western Electric built NIKE AJAX missile had a chemical explosive warhead. The NIKE Hercules missile could have either, with several different yield variants of the nuclear warhead...

    New bolds Corner NIKE Site

The demolition picture was taken at the northwestern corner of Newbolds Corner Road and Eayrestown Road on the southeast edge of Lumberton (Oji was right). There's one remaining concrete radar support pedestal across the road. Teegate's pictures and notes (above) are great; didn't know they...
