    Kinkora Rail Trail

Picture below was taken looking west on Island Road in Mansfield Twp just over the line from Springfield Twp. I'd thought the County project would extend along the old right away alongside Columbus road in Springfield Twp since there's a paved section running from Jobstown to the Township park...

    New bolds Corner NIKE Site

Attached is a picture taken on 04 Dec 2015 of the demolition of the NIKE radar site on the northwest corner. I was curious to see what had happened to the missile bunkers but believe they may have been located elsewhere in the overall NIKE complex, most of which is gone. Put this up for posterity.

    Where is this?

Al, right on. Guess there aren't too many multi-storied brick ruins in the Pines....... Signs have been added explaining sites in the Park since we were last there; thought about including a picture of them but that'd be a dead give away. johnny b

    jpeg/jpg

Our Macs format fotos in jpeg and offer export in TIFF, PDF, etc., but not jpg. Tried to post a jpeg foto on here and it was rejected. Ben said to use jpg, but I couldn't find a translator. Finally I looked up "jpeg/jpg" on Wikipedia and found out - THEY'RE THE SAME THING! So I erased the...

    Where is this?

The bridge is unfamiliar but the lake/pond sure looks like the beaver pond just south of the Maintenance shed below Franklin Parker Preserve North Gate.

    Let's Talk about the PPA

Today Ro & I drove from Atsion thru Hampton Furnace to Carranza Road, down to Friendship and over to Speedwell. Have been on those sections many times but believe we saw more vehicles and motorcycles today on these roads than ever before. People out to see what all the road closure commotion...

    Fruitland Monuments

Wouldn't deeds provide some information regarding stones? Wouldn't their descriptions either refer to monuments or some other identifying feature for the land description? P.S. No one commented on my earlier post that the map showed the Mullica in two places: one where it belongs and the other...

    Fruitland Monuments

Did anyone notice that the map showing the place of Teegate's visit labels the stream running thru Lower Forge the Mullica? That river can't run in two channels a mile apart!

    White Throats are Here

Yesterday Ro spotted 3 White Throated Sparrows in our back yard - facing the preserve in back of us. They're here over 3 weeks earlier than their usual appearance from up North. Do they know something about the coming winter?

    Drought conditions

This is the downstream side of the first armored spillway. Normal times it is invisible from the dike road, under feet of water. =

    Drought conditions

Same as above, further down that dike road at the first armored spillway. Normally this has several feet water depth. Now not only the waterway but the whole bog is bone dry. The dike road is on the left; that pipe in normal conditions is under feet of water and invisible from above.

    Drought conditions

Ro took these pix at Parker Preserve a few days ago. Horrible, thinking about effects on wildlife now and during the coming winter. This is the first bog after entering at North Gate and proceeding straight ahead. Normally it has several feet of water in it

    Where is this?

A couple days ago Ro & I were out observing drought effects and saw this picturesque ruin. Anyone want to guess where it is?

    Drought conditions

Yesterday Ro and I were down at Parker Preserve doing our monthly plant surveys at test sites. One site is an armored spillway on the main dike road directly south of the north gate. We've been tallying plants there for 4 years. There've been times when the flow over the spillway was low...

    Lock's Bridge

Without giving too definite locations, there are usually a number of Spiranthes, Gentian, and a uncommon Solidago (Goldenrod) species along the 206 shoulder ... when they're not mowed down. There're Spiranthes near the operating bogs on Park Road. But these may not be the flowers they saw back...

Illegal dumping is out of control this year.

I'm about as expert a birder as I am botanist - NOT in either! Ask PBX, who knows me well. A guess: Egret. They're white, Herons are blue, gray, brown, etc., but rarely white. There were 27 Great Egrets out at Whitesbog a week ago but not tonite. Migrate south? Head for better local place? Where?
