Attached is a picture taken on 04 Dec 2015 of the demolition of the NIKE radar site on the northwest corner. I was curious to see what had happened to the missile bunkers but believe they may have been located elsewhere in the overall NIKE complex, most of which is gone. Put this up for posterity.

The bridge is unfamiliar but the lake/pond sure looks like the beaver pond just south of the Maintenance shed below Franklin Parker Preserve North Gate.

Today Ro & I drove from Atsion thru Hampton Furnace to Carranza Road, down to Friendship and over to Speedwell. Have been on those sections many times but believe we saw more vehicles and motorcycles today on these roads than ever before. People out to see what all the road closure commotion...

Did anyone notice that the map showing the place of Teegate's visit labels the stream running thru Lower Forge the Mullica? That river can't run in two channels a mile apart!

Yesterday Ro spotted 3 White Throated Sparrows in our back yard - facing the preserve in back of us. They're here over 3 weeks earlier than their usual appearance from up North. Do they know something about the coming winter?

This is the downstream side of the first armored spillway. Normal times it is invisible from the dike road, under feet of water. =

Same as above, further down that dike road at the first armored spillway. Normally this has several feet water depth. Now not only the waterway but the whole bog is bone dry. The dike road is on the left; that pipe in normal conditions is under feet of water and invisible from above.

Yesterday Ro and I were down at Parker Preserve doing our monthly plant surveys at test sites. One site is an armored spillway on the main dike road directly south of the north gate. We've been tallying plants there for 4 years. There've been times when the flow over the spillway was low...

We've had them here for several days...

Without giving too definite locations, there are usually a number of Spiranthes, Gentian, and a uncommon Solidago (Goldenrod) species along the 206 shoulder ... when they're not mowed down. There're Spiranthes near the operating bogs on Park Road. But these may not be the flowers they saw back...

I'm about as expert a birder as I am botanist - NOT in either! Ask PBX, who knows me well. A guess: Egret. They're white, Herons are blue, gray, brown, etc., but rarely white. There were 27 Great Egrets out at Whitesbog a week ago but not tonite. Migrate south? Head for better local place? Where?
