DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

Perhaps we should make a new thread specifically for the latest updates on West Mill Road. There is a lot to say but I don't want to detract from the focus on the new vehicle map here. This is one road that is actually listed as legally drivable (even if in point of fact it currently isn't) and...

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

This was one of the points that I made in my letter. Going forward with this would really only harm accessibility for responsible, law-abiding visitors.

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

There was a massive turnout to this event. Probably at least 150 people at once late in the day. I do not think that they were expecting this kind of attendance at all. From what I could tell, nearly everybody there was in opposition to the new map. Significant presence there from 4x4 groups and...

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

Yes. I would imagine that, if implemented, the non-included roads would have those plastic No Motor Vehicles posts put up, blocking them off. I was not around here for the 2015 MAP and don't know the circumstances of how it was ultimately defeated, but I hope that this is met with a similar...

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

I was quite surprised by this. It was the first thing I checked. We really will need a map showing what this proposal would close rather than what it keeps open. I may try to throw that together, if I have some time soon. West Mill is blocked by Miller's gate from the 206 end, and by the...

    Snow coming next week?

Today was amazing. I know the snow is not everybody's cup of tea, but I love it, and it's when the pines look the most magical to me. It's been years since a really nice snowstorm like today. The roads were even clear. I took the day off just to enjoy it.

    The Other Side of NJ

These are great, thank you for sharing! Forsythe is an awesome place. I really enjoy going there. I'm glad to hear that the pelicans are still hanging around. I have seen them a total of two times. Two on 12/14/22: And then three this past year on 11/25/23: Both times, they were very far...

HERE maps - possible changes coming

HERE is actually owned by a consortium of German automakers, including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen. It does have its original roots in Navteq, which was then purchased by Nokia, and then later sold to the automakers. Garmin is just another customer of their map data, and not an owner, I...

    Western Living Magazines

I know who would almost certainly love to have these, if you're ever near Paulsboro at some point. Fran DiBacco runs this somewhat hidden part-store-part-museum, the Vintage Magazine Shoppe. He has something like 100,000 magazines. https://maps.app.goo.gl/95Q8WDVU75eaAMky8 I forget where I...

Did I miss something - has the current plan already been published?

    Jersey Devil Bobblehead

Not a bad looking one. Although I think this is my favorite rendition of the JD. I'm not sure who the artist is, but I've seen this in a few places. The waistcoat and jacket are great. We need more cryptids in formalwear.

HERE maps - possible changes coming

If anyone else is looking for an alternative site for the Mapbox satellite imagery now that it will be removed, I found what I was looking for here: https://mapcarta.com/21348050/Map Just put it into satellite mode.

HERE maps - possible changes coming

That is quite unfortunate. I hope that the situation can be resolved in some way, and you are able to re-enable these maps at some point. I did not really use the HERE maps often, but the Mapbox hybrid map is very useful and has probably the most detailed satellite imagery (Maxar, I think?)...

    The Pioneer Sportsman's Club

I wasn't sure if it could be a dwelling or not. The one I took pictures of looks a bit too small to be a house, although it does look like there are ruins of a chimney next to it. The terra cotta looked like a chimney liner. The largest one to the south could have been a house, but again there...

    The Pioneer Sportsman's Club

Not the same thing, but here are some photos of the foundations of the buildings around the Alloway/DeMarco monument. I was there just a few days ago. Is there any further information about these buildings? Were they equipment sheds or something for the blueberry operation? Here they are on...

    Our Finds Today

Makes me think about how the newer NJ tags, which are just printed rather than stamped like they used to be, will quickly become useless to future archeologists. If one of them gets buried today, I imagine 80 years from now all that will be left will be a blank piece of metal.
