The moment you've all been waiting for...

Because the mountain lion images are always taken by people with good equipment who are expecting an encounter and are prepared for it? Or because any finer resolution would clearly show the seams around the neck and shoulder joints? Lastly, let's ignore the question of their existence and...

    'Hawkin Swamp, a PBX Hike.

Wow, easily some of the greatest shots you guys have posted from any of your excursions. Well done! And that millstone is the coolest find I've ever seen reported here.

[May 18, 2013] [CANCELED] NJPB Atsion Get-Together/Tour (Vincentown, NJ)

I'd like to come, Ben. Can't promise on the date yet for various reasons. But put me down as a tentative.

    Turkey

Here's my fearless turkey story: Not long after we moved into our current home I happened to look out back and see our cat squaring off with two large Toms standing in front of a small flock of hens. I stepped out onto the deck and shouted at them, with the idea that my mere appearance would...

Seeking historical background on lower Mullica river life, mid-18th century

Hey guys. I've been unfortunately very busy with a change of jobs and various other things, and my forum reading has dropped considerably. I'll catch up on this thread and try to add what little I've learned since it was started. Pineywoman, I was derailed momentarily when I first considered...

    Small airports are disappearing

I think general aviation is disappearing, and the airports would go with it. My Mom and Dad both received their certificates in the late 60's, and for awhile my Dad owned a Piper 180 with a friend of his. On Sunday mornings we'd all pile into one or two planes and head off to a fly-in pancake...

    Checking in

I would never mind a passenger, but unfortunately I haven't had the time to make it back up there. We should organize something in the early spring before the weather gets too warm and the bugs come out. There are a lot of sites I would like to revisit.

    Recent Vandalism at Brooksbrae

I first heard rumors of the place in the early eighties after my family moved into the area. My impression was that most of the guys who grew up in the area had heard of it, but few had taken the trouble to find it. Last time I was out there, perhaps four years ago, there was a lot of paintball...

Howardsville Revisited ..... And the Keith Line

Nice pictures, Guy. I've only been out there once, but I thought I detected cellar holes and some brick debris along the road west of the field. I've also found pottery shards while walking out in the field itself. Other than that I don't know much about Howardsville.

    Union Clay Company 5-26-08

When I was out there last my impression was that they were probably take-away pits where clay was excavated, but that's just a guess.

    High Crossing never disappoints

That's about as succinct and informative a description of the difference in attitudes as it is possible to construct.

    High Crossing never disappoints

Catching up on posts I missed. Obviously they drive through the middle of those holes on purpose, for the adventure of it I guess. I could navigate that go-round in the FJ, but I would not try the hole. I've been in some pretty deep ones, with water well up over the door sills. Fortunately the...

    Checking in

Hey Ben, missed this when it was first posted. I haven't been up to the gap since the storm, but I know a couple people who have and they didn't report much damage. Hoping to get up there myself shortly after the new year.

    Checking in

I always resisted getting a smartphone because I spend my day surrounded by computers, and the luddite in me didn't feel like he needed another one strapped to his hip. I have now revised my opinion :).

    Checking in

Just got power and network back this evening. Damage to the electric grid in our area was devastating, but fortunately we had little property damage, though it did take about six hours to clear the windfall off the yard. Hope everyone else came through ok.

    Fearless Felix

He did, and in fact the somewhat portly old fellow who was his main voice link from mission control was none other than Col. Kittinger, who mentored him through the planning and prep for the attempt.

    Fearless Felix

Anyone watch his jump today? They streamed it live on Youtube. It was pretty incredible. I have to admit to getting a lump in my throat when he hit thick air and managed to stop his tumble, and again when he went to two knees after landing and threw his arms into the air. Quite an amazing...

    Upcoming Outage: Site Maintenance

One of the reasons I posted it was to see if anyone else had the problem. It's the only site I've seen this issue with, so I don't believe it's a general problem with my ISP. Next time it happens I'll shoot Ben an email and he can have a look.

    Upcoming Outage: Site Maintenance

Agreed, I think that is the major advantage to having your own gallery. But all the drawbacks are valid as well. Hey, on another topic, I've noticed quite a few problems recently with the site being unavailable. During a large chunk of the day today I was getting DNS lookup failures, and I've...

    Old Mine Road open

Wow, first I've heard of that incident. Talk about a dumb idea. That's about as boneheaded as they come. I think I met that guy a couple of times back in '08 when I stopped in for a bottle of water. There never was much traffic, and he was usually puttering around the place painting or something.
