    Forest Fire in Winslow

My wife saw the smoke this morning. I didn't get home until after dark, so I didn't see it. That's my stomping grounds, 5 minutes from my house. I'll have to out there tomorrow.

Atlantic White Cedars in Muskee Headwaters

I have a few cedar swamps I go to in the winter and just sit and listen to the cedar's bump each other in the wind. Heaven!

    Pgymy Pines Hike

I've went there when I had Friday's off. It's your own personal airshow, plus the beauty of the pigmy pines. I started off route 539 just past Lucille's diner driving from route 72. Enjoy. Greg

    Ticks..........

I went on a hike a while back with my brother Tom (Jeff, it was the day we met you). Thought it was too early for ticks. 2 days later I found one dug into my back. Guess it's time for the permithrin. Had Lymes once and that's enough for me. Long-A Coming, hope your fully cured. Greg

    Anybody Fly Fish?

All good advice. Fly fishing isn't as easy as it looks, but it is fun.

    Anybody Fly Fish?

Take it from one who is self taught. Cut the curved part of your hook off the first time you practice. I hit myself in the ear a dozen times my first try. I've seen a guy who fly fishes Batsto Lake. You might want to give it a try once you learn. Greg

A Golden Eagle Deep In the Pines

Scott, My wife and I have seen Bald Eagles in Florida. They wait until the Pelicans catch fish and then steal them. I guess Golden Eagles are the Same. They do what they have to do to survive in the wild. Greg

    old ruins found

My thought exactly, Jeff. From your description I think it's a spot I may have visited about 15(?) years ago. I've never went back, though. Not sure if I could find it again, as in those days when I had 2 good knees I did quite a bit of wandering about. No fish caught, but one good strike so...

    LBI 1962 Storm Photos

Sorry if I'm repeating what some of the sources referenced said. I'm reading a book "Great Storms of the Jersey Shore". They have a very clear picture of the Monssen, her number, 798 clear in the picture they have. She was under tow from Bayonne to Newport when the tow cable snapped. The storm...

    February FROGS....

Sorry Mike, but since the great majority of litter (in the pines) is put there by New Jersyites (mostly trash, beer bottles and construction debris), I really don't see a problem with the ballons. The idea is for some one to find it and not leave it there, but to send a note to the school. I...

    Raptors

When Peregrines are "in between" immature and adult, The color often looks mottled, but the side burns and crow size are usually good field marks to go by. Merlins are much smaller, but the coloration is similar, and if you're far away ID can be tough. Kestrels are very colorful. I have a...

    Sasquatch in the Pines

A freind thought I was crazy going into the woods alone. I politely reminded him that I was the one hiding with a loaded weapon (during hunting season) :)

    My new hiking partner.

Thanks for all the kind responses. One of the structural engineers at work tried to condemn my canoe as a safety hazard so I could get a new one to take the baby out in, but my wife Denise wouldn't go for it :)
