    Perchin' The Pines

I've caught Perch in Batso, but not very often. Crappie, Bass and Pick's are what we mostly catch. Never new Perch were so good. Next one I catch will be with dinner. Greg

    Tick warning

46'er, when I got it in 1992, the treatment philosphophies(sp?) were not set. I took doxycyclene for 3 months. I can't complain, since I've suffered no symptoms since.

    Drought coming?

If the Batsto is low we're in trouble. It's almost ok as far as water level's go

    Fear of Dying

I've personally experienced what they call "low level depression". I spent months not even to want to go the pines, which are my favorite place on earth. I admit I didn't read the entire article, it hit to close to home, but I had to be treated with certain drugs that would leave me totally...

    Pgymy Pines Hike

It's a different, but beautiful spot. No where else like it. Glad you and your group enjoyed the day.

    Tick warning

I got it in the early 90's and have not suffered any long term symptoms. I guess I'll still need to be carefull.

    Levon Helm passes on

I'm certain I heard his music, but sorry, I'm not much of a music name follower. Sad to hear he passed away.

    Tick warning

I went out canoeing on Sunday. I don't even remember being on land, except launch and take out. Today I found a tick firmly embedded in my back. Varmint kong!

    What is it?

My brother and I had a remote (bandit) spot in the deep woods where we regularly left stuff behind in a box for the next trip. He passed away in 1997. When I go there each year, the wood is more rotted into the ground. Last year there was little evidence we had even been there, and it's only...

    Traffic in the Pines

I can cut some things out, but my trips to the pines can't be one of them. I'm 5 minutes from Winslow WMA, 30 minutes from Atsion or Batsto. I'll be out the same as in past years. If I didn't, this hectic world we live in would drive me nuts. Largo, you took your Vette on sand roads? As a...

    Wharton State Forest on Fire

My boss just told us there was a fire. He lives out that way, near tabernacle. Low humidity and very dry conditions, we really need a good soaking rain

    What is it?

Lets see. I went to church this morning at sunrise to celebrate the empty tomb. Then breakfast with friends. Then a nice dinner with family. In between, a great drive through the pines. No Easter Eggs or arguments about religeon. BTW, half my family is Jewish. And I'm still curious about the...

    Forest Fire in Winslow

Both Winslow fires seem to have been started along the road through Winslow that I've always called "main road". It's too much of a coincidence for me. Again, I can't say enough about the folks who contained the fire. Greg

My first Orchid of the season

I agree. When I canoe, I often beach, walk about 10 yards into the woods and just stand and look. It's amazing what you can see while you're still.

    Drought coming?

I posted earlier about the Winslow fire. The swamps are as dry as as I've seen them in years. Dry weather has meant less bugs in the woods in the past, but also greatly increases the chance of fire. I think I'd rather see some rain. Greg

    Forest Fire in Winslow

I spent some time in Winslow hiking around and talking to the forest service guys. I know even though there has been some question as to their methods of fire fighting, the Winslow fire was definitely a job well done (and I told that to every one of them I saw). They did a great job containing...
