Environmentalists seek to rein in ATVs amidst fears of damage to Gravelly Run

They didn't have ATV's in my days in the Barrens. It was so peaceful in there. They're out here in AZ too, all over the desert kicking up dust.

    john mcphees, the pine barrens

Post 30: I ordered that book from Ebay? I don't remember that either. What became of it. Do i have it buried here someplace? I've moved various times since then and a lot of things have disappeared, and i also used to trade in old books at the Bookmans...(I'm reading thru this whole thread)...

Yes, I believe that's the one. I never owned it but just looked through it years ago in a book store, I think. I don't know if it's really rare but i don't recall ever seeing it again. ADD: I did own it but I forgot!

Maybe someone objected to encouraging illegal camping, which actually is probably a good thing. I don't leave a trace, but you'd get people trashing the place and starting fires.

    Finding an Old Book

"Old Book" This thread brought to mind one of the unique places of now long gone America. Macdonalds book store was located in a very old factory building in an out of the way spot in the small town of Hudson NY. I was just talking about it. It had an enormous basement filled up with old...

Amazon used to have my review on top but they seem to have totally deleted it now, perhaps because of my allusions to illegal activities. Idindonuffin!

    Kayaking on the Wading Again

Yeah that was really good, the last time I've been back east. I got caught right smack in the middle of Hurricane Sandy! Are the fire towers still there? If they are they must be all locked down. Years before I remember climbing up a fire tower in the Catskills mountains (Rip Van Winkle...

    Kayaking on the Wading Today

"kayaking as that's my hobby" Me too, or it was when i lived back east, canoeing (my favorite), sea kayaking. Since i lived in an apartment in Manhattan i had inflatable kayaks. I don't remember ever seeing any police in the barrens in the old days. I do remember once driving down to the PB...

    Kayaking on the Wading Again

Swiping cranberries 1972 - just a handful! That's what i was doing another time when the cropduster biplane came by and strafed me with bug spray. After that I quit the cranberry racket.

    Kayaking on the Wading Again

I did post this one before, but it's interesting: Train wreck on Jersey Central RR tracks near Carranza Memorial Sep 1971. There's more, plus even more that i haven't scanned, mostly color slides, plus even more that have disappeared over the years.
