Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

Guy, I think the article you are referring to might be "Hanged In Three Places, Buried In Two." I haven't been able to find it online, however.

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

Not the same road as the one depicted on that map.

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

There does appear to be faint, straight line through the swamp here. Possibly, just possibly the old road from/to the landing.

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

Al, check out this map. It depicts a road from Mordecai Landing that goes north through the swamp. Problem is, I don't see diddly squat on lidar that suggests this road was ever there. If it was there at one point, it looks like it would have been quite close the the ditch here...

Yes, he was an editor for the Camden Courier Post, and he frequently wrote for the Star-Ledger.

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

I don't recall ever reading that article. Was it a Starr-Ledger?

Jersey Genesis pg. 284. Can't say this is the same saw mill site for sure, but it sure seems very likely.

Boyd, is there 2019 lidar data for Burlington County in existence? Can't recall if you said so or not.

Al, Checkout this map used by the British in planning the attack on Chestnut Neck, the Forks and Batsto. Present day 542 in the vicinity of Batsto is about where the road depicted on this map was, a good distance from the dunes. There would be no reason to construct a defense so far from the road.

Al, dunes like that are all over the area. Look immediately to the east and you find this: https://boydsmaps.com/#14.00/39.627062/-74.573964/lidar2021bw/0.00/0.00

I take, of course, no umbrage at your decision. You've done an amazing job. I will say, however, that, to my eyes, the rendering of the old LIDAR clearly yielded a higher resolution. But I'm not complaining. P.S. I have many tools in my arsenal with which to defeat Alfie.

Boyd, I'm thinking of these maps: https://forums.njpinebarrens.com/threads/welcome-to-lidar-boydsmaps-com.13293/page-6#post-160003

No, these are Al's own musings.

I believe I'm thinking of the 2019 lidar. I can only say for certain that it was a higher resolution than the 2021 lidar and that it included imagery of Mordecai Swamp.
  16. pinelandpaddler

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

That looks like the same imagery, but you had made it available for much of Burlington County before taking it down. I was wondering if there was by any chance anywhere I can find that imagery for Burlington County.

Al, I just looked back at past discussions between you and I on these trenches. We've been debating this for over 10 years! It is about time we've settled the issue and figured out what is what. I will admit that there is still a sense of mystery about these ditches, and I think you've raised...
