    Fix Our Parks

Lots of road-kill on the paved highways. Should we shut them down? Interesting aside: Jason Howell once told me he'd rather see highways closed off than see a member of an endangered species struck by a vehicle.

The new universal boydsmaps web app is (finally) here!

Oh, I know this has nothing to do with your app. I am having the same issue when I go to their National Viewer app: https://apps.nationalmap.gov/viewer/ I look at those maps extensively (the slope map is incredible), but I've never had an issue like this with them until the past few days. I've...

    10th Anniversary of the Derecho

I distinctly recall narrowly avoiding being pelted in the head by one of the many walnuts that were flying off the tree in my yard while I was running from the pool to the house.

Boyd, are you having any issues with the USGS lidar loading? I'm still having problems and am curious to see if anyone else is.

Looks like USGS has made their lidar imagery unavailable. This really stinks.

Wading River Raceway, A PBX Hike

Scott, that is the old road from Green Bank to Harrisville. There would have been a bridge there, but some sort of sluice gate possibly existed there as well. However..... I doubt it was a millrace, since it is way longer than necessary. I also doubt it was for drainage purposes for the same...

    Glass Insulators

Thanks. Looking at historic aerials, you can see that sometime between 1940 and 1951, the creek was dug out deeper and wider to make a sort of pond (looks like for recreational purposes). The mound you visited were part of the dredge spoils.

I'd like to check out this mound of dirt on lidar. Would you mind sharing the whereabouts?

An invasive species now has a new name to replace ethnic slur

From what I gather, most Romanis around the world embrace the term "gypsy." Most of the people complaining are likely the same sort of people that think terms like "blacklist" and "blackout" are racially insensitive.
