    Something caught on camera?

Assuming it was a jet (that's my vote), depending on how fast it was going, how far away it was and the altitude, the sound would have been pretty far behind it. By the time the guy filming the race heard it (over the sound of the cars), the jet may have been out of sight behind the trees. The...

    Flying Squirrel

Ha, good story! I had squirrels pretty much surround me once and announce to all the deer that I was there (I was in a natural ground blind). They wouldn't shut up. I finally had enough and decided to leave. I turned around and stood up and there was a doe standing about 15 feet away. She...

    Franklin Parker Preserve ?

I hunted that area when my brother was alive, before it was a nj conservation area. It was a good area. I hiked there last fall/winter and there was a good rub 15 yards from my brothers old stand, so it still seems good. I didn't realize they even considered allowing hunting there. Greg

Oswego Lake to Sim Place ... 2009

Tom, you're too old. You can't remember anything correctly. Bob and Jeff, you are both welcome on our new found pickerel spot. If you see two guys already there argueing, that will be Tom M and I. I'll be the one sitting on the floor of the junker canoe. :) Greg

Oswego Lake to Sim Place ... 2009

Wow guy's, that looked like quite a trip. Tom M and I must be wimps, as we turned around at one of the first real bad looking spots. Jeff, next time bring your fishing stuff and stop at that first dam (above and below). It was a really good spot. We also wondered when it was built and what it...

    Wading River

Does this signal a trip to the pines? Let us know, it would be great to share a lake or stream again. Not like the old days, though. This time I won't let you and Tom ram me! Greg

Chatsworth Lake and the Bog of Dead Turtles

The turtles I saw were big. I may have a picture of one at home. I think I'll try that bog this fall. I've been back there often over the years, but never with my fishing stuff. I used to bow hunt that general area with my oldest brother (died in 1997). I go there once or twice a year now to...

Chatsworth Lake and the Bog of Dead Turtles

Jeff, I hiked to that bog from the lake over the winter (it's a lot easier when the ground is frozen). It's one of my favorite bushwacking areas. Maybe this fall I'll carry my back pack rod and fish the bog. I did see some turtle shells, but it sounds like now there are more. I also wondered...

    Upper Oswego

Guy, That is correct, I checked on gmaps and we weren't even close, if I have the right spot where we stopped to fish (hard to tell). If you can put in at the coordinates Bob mentioned, that will save a lot of paddling. Crossing the open lake from the parking lot we were against a wind driven...

All she lost: My sister's battle with Lyme disease

What a sad story. After reading stories like this I feel very fortunate to have had the doctor I had when I was diagnosed with Lymes in 1990. And yes, everyone please be careful in the woods. Greg

    Upper Oswego

Bob, Oh, ok. I see where the picture is. No, we didn't get close to that spot. I think I see from google that if we had pushed through a little it opened up and we could have gone much further. But, it was getting late and we fished quite a while, had lunch and relaxed. Next time.

    Upper Oswego

Bob, You would have to zoom out a little for me to tell if we made it to where photo is, but I looked on google maps and I know we didn't get to Sim's place. Guy had given me some sites to find, but we didn't get far enough upstream to look for them. We didn't make good time. First,as we had...

    Upper Oswego

We canoed upstream for about 5 hours. I'm not sure exactly where we were, but we did cross an old wood gate that formed a small pond. We stopped there to fish for about an hour and then turned around. I also broke the front seat on the canoe going under a tree that blocked the stream. 5 minutes...

    Upper Oswego

Canoed on the Oswego today (upstream of the lake). I didn't take many pictures, as it rained a good deal of the time. I'd do the trip again, hopefully in nicer weather. A shot of the stream, when it started to clear: I have a few flower ID questions: Pitcher Plant, not quite in bloom...

    Hampton Furnace trashed

I've picked up so many bags of trash (already bagged) in the pines I sometimes think they are from road cleanups that haven't been picked up yet. People really bag the stuff and then drive out to dump it? I don't get it.

Name your poison: 'Snake wine' seized at airport

Real funny Tom, how'd we go from snake poison to cheap shots at me? And I got a camera. I didn't take pictures of your fish because I didn't know how to use the microscopic setting :) .

    fishing??????

Yeah, what about all the other lakes where you never catch anything? :) Hey, are you open for that Upper Oswego trip next weekend? I'll give you a call (if we're still speaking). I'd really like to do that one this month. Greg

    fishing??????

I use single hooks for worms or minnows. I have some top water lures with trebles. I crimp all the barbs if I remember. For unhooking I try to not touch Pickerel to not disturb the slime on them. I keep long nosed plyers and unhook in the water if I can. I also keep wire cutters in the tackle...

    Snake ID

I asked a few other people I know and the consensus seems to be Kingsnake. I was surprised the picture came out as I'm still trying to learn how to use the camera, so I appreciate the kind words. Some flowers were just starting to poke up. I'm looking forward to trying some pictures of them a...
