    Today's trip 12/30

I had heard about the Snowy Owls. Let us know if you see one, and good luck! I hope to get out on Sunday, perhaps to Brigantine. Greg

    Today's trip 12/30

Tom, when you said you saw long tailed ducks, I had no clue what you were talking about. I looked in my field guide (from about 1980) and couldn't find them. I didn't even know the name had changed. I guess it's finally time for a new field guide :)

    Today's trip 12/30

Nice! My wife and I usually go to Brigantine, but my brother heard about the Harlequin Ducks at Barnegat so we may drive down Sunday to try and catch a glimpse.

    computer protection or bug?

I'm not very knowledgeable about this, but I recently switched to Mozilla Firefox and haven't had any problems. Is this a better one to use for virus protection?

    Cedar Waxwings

We haven't seen any in our yard. We have a flowering tree (crab apple) that usually attracts them in decent numbers. The tree is covered in the berries they eat, but we haven't seen any Cedar Waxwings lately. None in the woods near home either.

    Ruffed Grouse

I was thinking the same thing. The last few years we have seen a Peregrine Falcon in our neighborhood. We have always had bird feeders (seed and suet) in our back yard, and the Falcon pretty much started hunting over our yard. Most of the larger birds we used to get (Blue Jays, Grackles, etc...)...

    Signs of the Pines

I always thought the first sign meant the owls weren't allowed to fly away with the trash. And the alien has paddles instead of fingers on it's hands. You would think they'd be able to swim better. Thanks for clearing this up for me Jeff. Greg

Get Together: Nov 29, 2008 - Deep Hollow, Mary Ann Forge, and Beck's Canal

Ben, I wanted to make a group outing, and put some faces with the names, but both my kids were home for the weekend (first time in quite a while) and we had plans with them. Hopefully if there is another I'll be able to go. Hope you had a great day today.

    Chatsworth North....A PBX Hike

I spent many hours and days exploring that area, and had a few stands out there with my brother. Also, we had a few bandit camp sites, that are now overgrown. I have many good memories of those woods. Many of the pics looked familiar, thanks for posting them. Greg

    It's snowing......

I hope so! "What are chiggers" was one of the Jeopardy answers last night, and I caught myself scratching the last of this years bites.

    The Economy

I hear you. I also wanted out at the same 59.5. My revised projected retirement date now stands at about age 89.

    Chatsworth Club

Yep, they were biting too! On second thought, maybe I'll check out the area this December or January.

    Chatsworth Club

I've always wanted to explore the part between the legs of the "V" in the lake. I was there this past Friday with my canoe and thought about it, but the fish were biting :)

    Chatsworth Club

That's interesting. In the vicinity of the lake, I've found the remains of some sort of retaining wall, and what looks like a column, which are not even close to the locations shown. I wonder what they were from?

    1st Time to Jemima Mt

Harry birthday! I passed that line 2 years ago. In recognition of the milestone I started a tradition at 50, I take the day off and go to the pines. Last year I fished at Batsto, not sure yet what I'll do this year. Hope you enjoyed your day.

Kayaking the Wading with a different agenda

Enloyed the trip report and pictures. I had heard the water levels were low on the wading. I was fishing yesterday on the Batsto, the water level is usually ok there. I also did not swim, the water is a little too cold for me:). Greg

    Bald Eagle sighting

I grew up in Brooklawn and fished the waters around that area when the water was really filthy. You're right, the water is much cleaner now, and the fishing is good (Striped Bass, Large Mouth Bass). My younger brother lives in that area and has seen the eagles often.
