Fish and Wildlife doubts coyote is calf-killer

Im not so sure most packs of Jersey coyotes do take down adult deer. We've had a house in the Adirondacks for almost 25 years and it wasnt until the last decade that DEC officials really noticed that some packs were getting ballsy and smart enough to bring deer down. I frequently talk to the...

favorite spot to stargaze in the pines

Nothing like the wide-openess of the middle of a lake at night. A canoe or a rowboat would be first choice out on one of the lakes. I realize this is not allowed at some destinations, but thats not to say I havent done it. I have no special spots for taking the truck, but Ive pulled over in...

    Beer (again)

Good old Lone Star is all we drink in Fort Worth since its brewed right there.. Shiner Bock is even better though. Ive listened to Joe Ely on my serius outlaw country station and think he's pretty good. Dr. Johns a good listen too.. got into him through The Band, who I really love. Even got a...

    Beer (again)

Dont remember what concert off the top of my head, but if I had to guess Id say it was a Black Crowes concert. I usually go to a half dozen of their shows each year. Other shows I've seen in the last few years: Ratdog (w/ Bob Weir from the Grateful Dead), Willie Nelson, George Jones, Shooter...

    Beer (again)

We were supposed to go this year, but a concert came up and we spent money elsewhere. Dont know if you drink wine at all, but theres an awesome festival they have each year called the Grand Harvest up at Alba Vineyard in NW Jersey (in the foothills). It comes right around the begining of fall...

I got that 4 or 5 pack of Scottish beers last x-mas.. good stuff. I forget which one of them, but one almost tasted like chamomile tea.

    Beer (again)

Theres been a lot of interesting articles in the past year or so on the price of beer going up, especially IPAs and ESBs. Apparently, much of the world's hops come from Europe and Australia, with the U.S. pretty damn paramount for our domestic brews as well as exporting. With Europe having one...

    controlled burns

Im sure there is. They do this for a handful of well researched reasons. They do it in the pines, in many parks and conservation areas, and especially out west. Imagine a forest fire with all that low brush, wood, leaves, and pines. It would travel a hell of a lot faster and be a lot hotter...

    Beer (again)

Saw them for the first time when Willie, Merle, and Ray Price came around. Got turned on to them and hear them all the time on my Serius. They remind me a bit of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys.

    The downward spiral continues.....

Hope this doesn't eventually mess with my pension that I pay into weekly. Some people worry about social security disappearing, but I dont think the FED will allow everyone to live and die in the streets. Its pension funds that concern me. I agree with the post that said Corzine should work...

    need help with hawk identification

Saw a very cool sight last weekend. As we were driving there was a decent sized cotton tail in the road in front of us and as we got closer a large red tailed hawk swept down and picked the rabbit off. Very neat to see.

    Beer (again)

That would be the Scotch Ale. I love dark beers, but I can see someone not liking a Scotch Ale because of their thickness. McEwan's makes a mean Scotch Ale too.. gotta be in the mood. My brother just bought a house with a good sized bar so he's having a "bar stocking party" this evening...
