    need help identifying---name that animal!!

haha . . . i'm glad this is an interesting subject. It never really occurred to me to mention this (not sure why), but i sized the picture so that the smaller looked about the same size on the screen as it did in real life. the 640x596 is just about right at 1024 x 768 screen res. (if you...

    need help identifying---name that animal!!

Well its nice to see you're confident in that determination. Bear in mind, however, that the tracks and poop were probably about two miles away from one another, so---while they may both be from racoons, i wouldn't assume the poop based on the track. But either way, thats a nice simple...

    need help identifying---name that animal!!

I found that very near double trouble, actually. I was on the outskirts, somewhere between the park and bamber lake . . . . where the power lines run.

    Think you've seen trees?

wow. Those pictures just sick---though i'm sure they don't hold a torch to what it was really like being there. I've seen so many amazing things, and I've barely been anywhere . . . its a nice little reminder how bad i need to get out there. -Bob

no. that one print i shot was a long way off . . . and this particular little "gift" was left in an area with virtually no imprinting surfaces at all.

    need help identifying---name that animal!!

and yes--the second picture is an extreme closeup on a pile of poop that i just cannot identify. from the size, shape, color and contents---i'd say it was from a bear without hesitation . . . it looks exactly like bear scat---the only difference being the seeds are cranberry seeds and not...

    need help identifying---name that animal!!

in my travels today, i found . . . evidence left over from several animals. They are separate and weren't found together, but I need help identifying them both. I have my suspicions but they just don't make sense. and the one i'm REALLY eager to find out about is this: if...

WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF SEEING A MINKS ?

I'll either use a boogieboard (but it has to be a fairly expensive good one with a slick bottom, or it won't really work) or a board called a snowskate---its basically a flexible skateboard deck with grips on top and treds on bottom. You can buy them at snow/surf shops in the fall usually.

WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF SEEING A MINKS ?

Thanks so much, Renee! The site is perpetually a work in progress, but i'm really glad you liked it . . . most people never bother looking. And yeah--snoogieboarding is crazy fun. i kind of consider it the wilderness equivalent of snowboarding for poor people.

WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF SEEING A MINKS ?

I know this is a long time past, but---do you mean Jackson as in Great Adventure jackson?? I live in jackson and this is the first i've EVER heard of bobcats anywhere near the pines---nevermind in my home town. If he's sure about it, i was wondering if there's a chance you could tell me or...

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO SURVEY REPTILES AND AMPHIBIANS

Originally i had the same problems . . . for one thing, when you're looking at the map, make sure you're using internet explorer. Netscape and aol (and whatever else is out there) i've found don't usually give the coordinates on the bottom of the page as consistently as ie. also--they just...

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO SURVEY REPTILES AND AMPHIBIANS

This is a really great program--its fun and really very helpful . . . every certified vernal pool gains a certain level of protection from development as it is now considered a wetland (not just a puddle). This is my second year volunteering for this project and I have to say its a great...
