    Pine Barren Flora

Bob I know what you mean about everything being unstable in a flooded swamp.I usually just take to the water when that happens.I would rather walk down a chest deep ditch then try to pull a balancing act and go in head first. If the bottom isn't muck then the deeper water usually has a more...

That store across the road used to be called Campbells. It is now two stores, one is a pizza joint, plus the gas station. You can get propane there as well.

    Mauricetown/Heislerville Birding

I ride Mauricetown Birdge almost every day.I don't recall any signs along side the road telling you you can't park there? I will check next time I head to Wawa..I know there is a peregrine Falcon visible often in the dead cedars at the east (wawa) end of the marsh.Of course I have named him...

A Look Inside Lenape Farms WMA

Millville is not a township. It is a City and has been since 1866. Most of Bevan is in Commercial Twp with parts in Downe and Lawrence twp"s and some is also in Millville but the bulk is in Commercial.

A Look Inside Lenape Farms WMA

I have seen it called both for years. The signs around here at least till very recently still say Bevan but I have seen Millville WMA on maps in the past. The office is right down the street from my house.I"ll be driving by it tomorrow to pick grandson up from school.I"ll see if the sign still...

    Snakes this morning

I have had Pine Snakes vocalize.I have caught several that I would have walked by without seeing except for their bluff and bluster "Hissy Fit". I had one pine snake attract attention to himself from 50 ft away.He seen me at that distance which is very good eye sight for a snake.I would have...

Unusual Memorial to a Young Man in the Pines

I wonder if He made the mistake of casually letting the body of the snake lay across his arm which is a bad move. They will immediately grip your arm like any snake and use the gained leverage to yank and twist their head out of your grip just enough to twist around an hook a fang in you.If you...

Unusual Memorial to a Young Man in the Pines

The Cottonmouth I caught did the same thing. He actually flipped out from under the hook.I"ve never had a snake do that before. They are wickedly strong snakes. Now I know why the guy at the Serpentarium south of Orlando had his wife pin the back of a fat cottonmouth before he reached down and grab...

Unusual Memorial to a Young Man in the Pines

I think I would have liked Jimmy! Caught my first Cottonmouth in the Everglades a couple years ago and have caught a few rattlers as well.I also have a few private "camps" with crik access in the barrens.I would have shared them with Jimmy in a flash had I known Him.

    Snakes this morning

I can vouch for Chilehead,at least in his ability to locate treefrogs. It might take me 20 minutes to track down a ventriloqual treefrog but I have seen mark hear one call and immediately head into the brush with a flash light and locate it within a minute.A definite noteworthy skill in my opinion.

    another barren night

Bob I can't be sure without going back and checking but the area that video was taken has an awful lot of Sweet Gum,andred maple saplings coming up and cedar interspersed in the wetter areas.Thats definitely not a cedar,I remember it was a deciduous tree and it doesn't appear to be maple...
