The one time I paddled the nescohague I put in at 206.My word of advice is don't go that route. The first half mile took me over an hour.I would try this spot http://maps.njpinebarrens.com/#lat=39.69073673000028&lng=-74.73242539566041&z=17&type=nj2007&gpx= or maybe along here...

    Weymouth "Lake"

The ruins of the furnace masters house and a couple others are across the street (upstream) from the city park. There are some really big trees upstream as well. It's some kind of preservation property up there and is legal to walk through.

    Paradise Lake/Camp Jam

Planning a Batona Trail Thru Hike

It was 50.9 before they did the reroute down at the southern end.I think that may have shortened it a bit.Not sure. I just remembered there was also a reroute up north of Chatsworth and I believe that lengthened the trail.Kayak Karl would probably no the exact mileage. He lives on the trail:-)

    Renamed Rivers and Streams

I"ve canoed that oxbow.I knew it was a dead end though when I went up it.You can actually drag your canoe about 100 ft down a ditch at the Dead End and drop right back into the Great Egg.That whole area is one of the most gorgeous areas I"ve seen on a Pine Barrens river. From Weymouth down to...

    Black Bears in the pines

I thought I was the only nut that ever did that:-) I gave some to a buddy of mine and my ex wife as well. She deserved it and so did He.I won't elaborate on her but he poured Cayenne pepper on an open cut I had gotten from trying to pull his mirror in while He was speeding through a tight woods...

    Black Bears in the pines

Thats one tough bear.Skunk cabbage has oxalic acid in it and I know from personal experience it can put the whammy on a mouth.I tried eating some arrow arum and mistakenly boiled it instead of drying it like i should have.Drying destroys the acid but boiling does no affect it.It felt like...

Herp brains? :) Can anyone identify this frog by its call?

Yes Chilehead I"d agree they are cricket frogs after relistening to it.They sounded like crickets in the beginning and then faded to a chrus like sound but now I think their cricket all the way through. And at 21 seconds I think I do hear one hammer tap from a carpenter but it's at the edge of my...

Herp brains? :) Can anyone identify this frog by its call?

Are you saying the frog heard all the way through is a carpenter? If so I"d disagree with that or are you saying somewhere in the background you hear a carpenter which I do not but may be missing it.The Chorus frog actually starts out sounding like a cricket frog but sounds more chorus like as...
