Meetup With Invisible Menace No Walk in the Pinelands Park

Nope. Chiggers are not baby ticks, they are the 6 legged larvae of the harvest mite, Trombicula. I recall vaguely someone posting that they thought they could see chiggers, and maybe even got a really close up look at them and they turned out to be larval lone star ticks. Chigger larvae are...

An invasive species now has a new name to replace ethnic slur

The people who were called that particular ethnic slur probably do, though.

An invasive species now has a new name to replace ethnic slur

No skin off my nose. It is apparently an ethnic slur. Nothing wrong with cultural evolution IMO.

Is this an Asian longhorned tick?

That's an Ixodes scapularis female. JERK.

There are two standpipes in that graveyard that communicate with the mine fire and vent the gases, which lends to the fogginess, I think. It doesn't always smolder but it was that day. The graveyard is still active and accepting new clients, oddly enough.

We walked in about a half mile or so, it was kind of an interesting little hike between the piles of rubble. Someone took a lot of time trucking that in. It's quite an interesting place. Here are some more drone shots.

We visited Centralia in August ourselves and crossed this one off the bucket list. The grave marker is a mystery. I am guessing John got remarried? Or maybe he's still alive and kicking!

    Such a pretty day.

That's a cute house! Thanks for this! We're looking for acreage, but I like the bones of that, even though it's teeny. And it's in Chatsworth!! But I am with Bob, we want very private yet convenient. I think we've decided to look in New England for a few reasons, but it's still not 100%. We're...

    Such a pretty day.

Thanks! You're right, that's pretty steep. I wish we had that to spend! Who says money can't buy happiness? We're pretty much tapped out at 450, give or take.

    Such a pretty day.

Thanks, you two! I wonder if the alpacas come with the house? (kidding. Truth be told, alpacas and llamas sort of freak me out).

    Such a pretty day.

yes! But since the pandemic hit, I have been working remotely so I don't need to quit my job. Good thing, because otherwise, I would have.

    Such a pretty day.

So we're looking for a house out your way. We want at least 5 private acres, set back from the road, with a barn. I'd absolutely love any leads you might have. The market is crazy at the moment!

    Bald Eagle And Other Things

I am pretty sure I've asked about this same flower here before. It's magnificent.

    Passing Of A Piney Legend

Those wings at the Pic were legendary. I still miss them like 10 years later.

Some rare feathered visitors are at Forsythe

Roseate spoonbill??! In NJ!? And an avocet? These are amazeballs!

    Such a pretty day.

Thanks. Me too. And I am sorry for all of those kids who had to see it, too. A little boy of about four sitting next to me behind the sand bags kept asking his mother why the bad guy got dead, and she kept shusshing him. He's been on my mind a lot this weekend. He just wanted answers. I wanted...

    Such a pretty day.

Yeah. I need answers about why this man had access to guns. I need to know this in order to move on, so I hope I get them. I also need to see the live camera footage from the pier, as macabre as that sounds, so I can get an idea of the time it took from start to finish. I already had a front row...

    Such a pretty day.

We're not outrunning the guns, I don't think it's possible to do that anymore no matter where we end up. My hard-learned life lesson from this is that life is VERY short and it's pointless to live it in a way that doesn't make you happy if you have any control over it. We do. We are talking...
