    New Jersey

Does anyone else not really consider themselves from NJ? When I tell people where I'm from I say South Jersey....I consider this state to be three separate states(Northwest Jersey, Central-Northeast Jersey and South Jersey. I drive 45 miles to work everyday into Princeton and the cultural...

Is this unusual - for birders

Thanks Guy, that first sentence had all sorts of errors, must have been half asleep. Thanks for the feedback everyone. I figured it wasn't to out of the ordinary but something I've never seen. I did notice the birds were real aggressive with each other so there must have some fish there.

Is this unusual - for birders

Up where I work on the Millstone River there has been like 10-20 Great Blue Herons standing on the ice at the edge of the frozen/non frozen areas. They have been there this whole week. Also there has been a couple bald eagles perched on branches there as well. I've never seen this many herons...

I had heard the DEP did this in the early 80's but I was skeptical. August 4th 1981

I kind of feel like the state may have tried this a couple years back as well. It seemed like 4-5 years ago there was alot of bear sightings in various counties in south jersey but I haven't heard of any sightings until this past summer. I know of a confirmed sighting in Warren Grove and also...

Interesting.....cougars really don't live in groups unless they are maybe females with young. Females with young would signify a breeding population. A breeding population in a area as small as the nj pine barrens would be incredibly unlikely. These things have monster home range probably the...

Swamp pink and Ragged Fringed Orchid upper Big Timber Creek

Like devilstoy said it opens once a year for the crumb cup. Also the best way to play that course is to caddy there. They let there caddies play alot which is a pretty good gig. My friend caddied for Marty Brodeur and he tipped him 300 bucks....not bad.

Yeah can't say I've played that course, but have played the once public knock off version.

    1/4 mile update

You hope park police can make the distinction between the two. I go back there to study the population of a species back there and would hate to get ticketed when I'm just using the roads as simple access. I do know with looking for 'other' things in the pines a distinction between good guys...

    1/4 mile update

I saw park police back there around 9:30 am. I'll be honest I'm somewhat afraid to go back there for the same reasons Guy mentioned. I do have permit to study species back there but not sure that would help.

Swamp pink and Ragged Fringed Orchid upper Big Timber Creek

That whole area is very piney and has some real nice wetlands. I'm kind of pissed I can't play the actual golf course anymore as its private. I use to love playing there because the wildlife and surrounding habitat was special. The wetlands along where the brook trout are was very clean and...

Swamp pink and Ragged Fringed Orchid upper Big Timber Creek

Thanks for that info. I'll have to look at some maps of its headwaters, something about AWC swamps that interests me. I heard about the brookies from Emile recently and his interactions with Trump. I've played that golf course and actually have seen brook trout in it. Nice piece of property...

Where exactly does the BTC start? Having grown up around that creek I never thought at any point there would be AWC.

    Fire Somewhere????

I was in Lucille's parking lot in Warren Grove and saw three forest fire trucks heading north up 539. Their walk talkies where so loud I could hear someone saying Cedar Bridge. Can't say I'm familiar with that name. Anyone here/see anything? I didn't smell or see any smoke.
