    Last Call For Sea Breeze

I have two boats so islands work for me. I still think if someone took a camper out there, no one would bother them. Like I said, I didn't see any signs on the south end indicating it's the state's property, or no trespassing or anything.

    Last Call For Sea Breeze

Took my motorcycle from ATCO to Sea Breeze today (9/11). What a beautiful day for a ride. It was low tide and georgeous at Sea Breeze. I pictured myself in a camper at one of the raised home sites with a fishing rod right along the sea wall. There are even some shade trees there where the homes...

    Burnt Mill Road

I served on Waterford Twp's environmental commission and we established a horse trailer parking area next to the soccer fields. We also put up a large trail map there in cooperation with the Wharton State Forest folks. Biggest problem is the road leading into the forest at that point is used for...

    Mullica From Jackson Road

Forget it unless you're good with a chain saw in a kayak. A group tried last summer and didn't get very far. You can put in at Goshen Pond and paddle up about and hour - I did it last year - it was obviously cleared for a distance, but you won't make it to Jackson Road.

    Recent Vandalism at Brooksbrae

I can't believe the State doesn't make better use of volunteers. They could be used to maintain and watch over landmarks and parks. We have an adopt-a-road program where volunteers keep their designated roadways clean. NJ should have an adopt-a-park or adopt-a-landmark program. Also, prisoners...

Kayaking upper Mullica and Batsto Rivers

We just got back to NJ after spending 6 mos in SW FL and fould out that BHP is no longer running kayak trips on the Mullica and Batsto Rivers (or anywhere else). One problem they cite is the access roads still being washed out from the storms we had last year. Another issue for them is high...

Nice place to paddle and picnic

There's another road outage near Nescohague lake - not sure of the location. However, if you do the loop I described above you'll have access to Batsto Lake, Batsto village, the beach and the kayak/canoe launch at the Pleasant mills bridge. You have to take the loop in the opposite direction to...

Nice place to paddle and picnic

Yes - you can cross the Batsto River now on 542 as of about 2 weeks ago IF you are headed on 542 in the direction of Hammonton, but you can't cross the Pleasant Mills bridge on 542. The Batsto River bridge was never damaged, they closed it until they had a chance to inspect it for damage which...

Nice place to paddle and picnic

No. I can't tell for certain from your map cause it's too small, but there's a second road closure at Pleasant Mills near Nescochague Lake. Coming from the direction of Hammonton on 542 you have to take the Pleasant Mills to Weekstown Road at its fork with 542 cause 542 is blocked at that point...

Nice place to paddle and picnic

Only the Pleasant Mills bridge is out. You can go over the 542 Batsto River Bridge but you have to approach it by taking the Pleasant Mills to Weekstown road, cross the Mullica and head back towards Batsto. Crossing the 542 Batsto River Bridge you can access that sand road in. You can also...

Nice place to paddle and picnic

Launched my kayak at the lower Batsto River beach Tuesday at high tide. Sand road going in is very narrow - saw glass from a lot of broken side mirrors on the way in. I paddled up the lower Batsto River about half way to the 542 bridge - the way was cleared up to that point but a tree across...

    Best Spring Photo Spots

Thanks Guy - my mistake - I was using satellite photos instead of a topo map. Looks like I can also get into that area if I put in at Hawkins bridge too assuming the Tulpe is clear going upstream

    Best Spring Photo Spots

Would you please tell me where you are putting in your kayak to access the Tulpe. I can't even find it on the maps. Some folks have told me it comes into the Wading R at Hawkins Bridge - others have said Speedwell.

    deer contaceptive

Because cars kill more deer than hunters. Hunting isn't the solution to deer over population - even extending the season isn't going to solve the problem. So it's going to take something else in addition to hunting.

    deer contaceptive

I understand...and I have nothing against hunting. Maybe my statement of "new sport" is inappropriate; however, hunters might be able to make a contribution to wildlife management in addition to "culling" by shooting with a contraceptive dart; especially in the off season.

    deer contaceptive

How about this......we allow sporting goods stores to sell tranquilizer guns and darts; the kind you see being used on the Discovery channel to study animals. The darts are loaded with the deer contraceptive. Hunters buy the equipment and are permitted to shoot all the does they want with no...

    Chatsworth Lake

Saw your trucks too on my way to kayak Hawkins Bridge to Beaver Branch. What a great day to be outside. Flipped my kayak in some fast water between Evans bridge and Bodine Field when I hit a tree branch trying to avoid someone else who flipped in the same spot. Water is still pretty warm - felt...

Barnegat Light officials could take control of lighthouse

From the Press of Atlantic City Article: Atlantic City’s Absecon Lighthouse is operated and maintained by the Inlet Public/Private Association, a nonprofit with the overall stated goal of promoting development in the resort’s inlet neighborhoods. In 2010, tax records show the nonprofit raised...

Barnegat Light officials could take control of lighthouse

Last week I visited the Hancock Shaker Village in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. It's sorta like a Batsto. I was impressed by how well the place was managed and maintained. The area was bought by a group of businessmen and put under a board of trustees. Admission price is high ($17) but the money is...

    360 Panorama

Yeah, I've taken that back door in - if you have any problems let me know. I know Rob Auermuller, superintendent of the Wharton State Forest (if he's still the superintendent). They'd probably appreciate a copy of the pano.
