Planned rally at Brendan Byrne 5/17

I think.. my opinion that the sites and facilities at BB are much nicer then atsion for the family camp. And the woods are nicer also. There is a gate just before Pakim Pond. not that I would swim there either but there are cabins there to rent and Atsion's cabins are larger and always...

new CVS on Rt 206 (Tabernacle)

I use to go there for pizza when I went to Shawnee. Remember the old Tabernacle Inn, when it was a single story, dark and dreary building.

    Batona Trail hike

Maybe next time we park in the campground and go from there, he is determined to make it to the fire tower the next outing. It was looking like rain and the temp dropped real fast the last time we went.

    Which GPS to buy?

I am waiting for these handhelds to come with the 24,000:1 series topo maps instead of the 100000 series. Guess I'm just spoiled using them at work all the time and prefer the better detail... Till then I carry my old megellen 315 and some printed topo maps of the areas I traval to...

    Batona Trail hike

I hiked about 2+ miles in from the trail head just after the campground across from Caranazza Mem towards Apple Pie Hill with my son today. It was a last minute adventure. We by-passed the road piece after the camp. Started just before the 3 foot bridges on the road there

Recreation in the Pines... My thoughts

Agreed 100%... So if the required buffer is 100 feet, lets make it 150', 150% of the regulation or recommended buffer.. To better protect and preseve. As long as facts are facts and the info used is unbias and not a one sided study, I see no problem with this.

Recreation in the Pines... My thoughts

Well..... to quote a part of a great American song "this land is your land, this land is my land" please refer back to post #1 in this thread... It's not like the "traffic" is going to be like setting up camp next to RT 70 on a summer Sunday after noon. There are many times I...

Recreation in the Pines... My thoughts

That where the "rotation" of used trails comes to play. It would fall under the management part of the whole system. there are plenty of cuts that run parallel to each other. One option could be with the rangers in Wharton now having 2 dual sport bikes to patrol, they could monitor and under...

Recreation in the Pines... My thoughts

Not discounting the rest of your post, but I'm afraid some will only see that part... In my opening up the use of fire breaks, I am not proposeing the use of every single one. Any that would enter areas like you state would not be included in any proposed trail system. Further more, what...

Recreation in the Pines... My thoughts

Understood... but if the land owner is able to reopen the operation and start the sand mining again, wouldn't that defeat the same concern you have?? on another point, if a portion of the land might or could support T & E species, why could it not be only a "protected nature landscape"...

They were worried about the erosion of the bank, the same one that canoes and kayaks are drug up and down 200 times a day, 5/6 months of the years and all the canoe rental trucks

Wharton SF this weekend April 5 & 6

the format they use is 3 different loops back to the start, the longest approx 22 miles shortest is 12, the ride is considered "appropriate for new riders and riders with new horses" after each loop when making it back to the start location the riders are required to feed, water and allow...

Recreation in the Pines... My thoughts

fire breaks are wider then the typical trail that a hiker or 2 wheeled bicycle or motorcycle would use. the berm on each side from the cut created also contains the traveled path through the woods. If they were designated as part of a trail system, I'd bet the enduro clubs would, within the SF...
