    Calling the snake dudes

Alot of times older guys will refer to snakes as three things, adders, water moccasin, or rattlers. Adders I think are what alot of people use to call milk snakes. I will post some links to some possible snakes. However it very well could be a young black rat snake. They seem to for whatever...

    Calling the snake dudes

Please get a picture up. But most of all report the sighting to ensp of nj. It very well could stop contruction. However I'm just guessing that it is going to be a black rat or garter given the time of year. As soon as you get a picture I may be able to get you a phone number, or name of...

    Dead deer in the Mullica

Last year I saw about 5 dead deer in the salt marshes along the delaware bay. I suspected people dumping them there, but after reading this maybe it was the same cause as the ones on the mullica.

A PBX Hike, The Warren Grove Wildfire 6 Months Later

Oh then Bob is good at finding them. Jeff, I looked in my pine barrens field guide by Boyd. It states that crayfish are common throughout the pines. I've never seen one, but was told if you go out at night with a flashlight and look in streams you can see many.

A PBX Hike, The Warren Grove Wildfire 6 Months Later

Nice report guys. Guy, you have seem to mastered finding those rough green tree snakes. The last time I found one was when I was about 10 in haddonfield. The snake skin looks to be pine snake which would make sense given the area. Jeff, I'm somewhat suprised by the crayfish. I never think...

    Discovery survival shows

You guys miss the concept of the show, Bear never claims to perform these stunts. He states over and over the point of his show is for people to always stay on their toes and keep thinking creatively. He simply shows ways to build traps, fires, rafts, what you can and can't eat, etc. The show...

    Discovery survival shows

I'm a huge fan of man vs. wild ....but did anyone actually think Bear did alot of that stuff. Bear repeatedly says that he tries to teach things you can do in the wild to stay alive. The concept of the show is not to send bear out into the woods for a few days and for him to survive, that is...

    Coyote encounters- Crossley Clay Pits

I have seen coyote tracks and dens near cherry hill. A guy I know in the same woods got a picture of one on his field cam in february....a beautiful animal and one gaining quite a increase in numbers.

Oct 28 9:45 6th annual PINE BARRENS 4 WHEEL DRIVE CLEANUP

I hear you, this went in a direction I did not want it. I more or less wanted to let people know to leave things like railroad ties there, and find out what happens if a snake was encountered, mainly to be aware that these things provide refuge for animals sometimes. I agree trash is hideous...

Oct 28 9:45 6th annual PINE BARRENS 4 WHEEL DRIVE CLEANUP

:bang: At least I got through to one person, thanks Mark. Scott, I realize you will kill a snake if you see one but I'd appreciate it if you could leave it there so people who have a interest in them can continue studying them before people like yourself wipe them out because of ignorance...

Oct 28 9:45 6th annual PINE BARRENS 4 WHEEL DRIVE CLEANUP

I should note that I'm not talking about things like old bottles, cans, small cardboard, things like that. I'm mainly referring to the railroad ties, large boards, mounds of tires, larger things that are deeply routed and entrenched. I have found at least 4 pines snakes, tiger salamanders...

Oct 28 9:45 6th annual PINE BARRENS 4 WHEEL DRIVE CLEANUP

Well I agree the fauna certainly did get along fine before we started dumping our crap. Unfortunately many snakes get use to our crap being there and use it as rookeries, dens, etc. My only point is that I hope some care is taken if a snake is encountered, and also to let people know that...

Oct 28 9:45 6th annual PINE BARRENS 4 WHEEL DRIVE CLEANUP

First off I appreciate everyone's effort in helping keep the pine barrens clean. However, I have some concerns and questions regarding wildlife that exists within this trash. I can't help but notice from that one picture that railroad ties are being removed from the woods. My concern is that...

    Scat ID-outside of the pines

I found this scat in camden county along the cooper river. My initial reaction is bear....but I really can't rationalize a bear being in camden county. There is loads of deer and fox in this woods and possibly coyote. Any ideas? Sorry for posting scat pics.....but I'm curious to what other...

    My Eastern Painted Turtle

If the turtle was that size 11 years ago I would say it is around 16-18 years old. Some species of turtles you can count growth rings, such as box turtles, painteds you can't though. It is hard to determine water turtles age. The best way in the wild is by seeing how big it is. A painted...

While I was waiting for the train

Those are italian wall lizards. They were introduced into new york city decades ago and have thrived ever since. There was also a population of them in philly at one time, but from my understanding are no longer there. Nice find. chris
