Crazy amount of rain in Toms River for the 6/8 storm. Lots of flooding. It looks like 3+ inches of rain in only a few hours.

Oh, cool. I wasn't sure if it was under route 70 or on the Mary Ann side. Do you remember there being any other crossings of the creek before you hit the old forge site?

On an old map of Burlington County, along the Pole Bridge branch, there's a mark for the Pole Bridge. Down stream from Mount Misery and upstream from Mary ann. Has anyone explored the area for possible remnants? Does anything remain?

I am. Its a very similar to the feature we're studying at Dover forge. An earthen property line or fence. With time and erosion, they could be twins.

On Green Grove rd. In Ocean township, Monmouth county there's a similar feature near gun club rd.

That's right, no records exist for Dover forge during the sawmill, cranberry era, according to the Double Trouble historian.

The fire break in the upper portion of the diagram seems to fit with the raised trail formation and location. Near the blueberry fields, the area has been formerly cultivated. Could this be an old bog, up and away from Cedar Creek? Maybe not a bog at all by dry harvested cranberries?

Although it's far too long, a friend floated the idea that it might be a sand back stop for an old gun range.

That's what initially brought it to my attention. Only Dover forge trail is raised like it in the area. The old mill site was being turned into a bog in 1908. According to the history provided by the Monmouth County Historical Society, the entire area was consumed by a large forest fire in 1910.

Good questions. My best guess right now is that it was an access road to reach the river downstream from the cranberry bog for some reason. Perhaps to collect spill from flooding/ draining the bogs.
