I've been meaning to put a post up asking you guys who have been exploring the pines if you see more wildlife now or back when you guys first started. You always hear alot how animals are getting wipe out, but from what I have been able to see things seem to be recovering more then declining.

I'm not sure where dover forge is but here is the red throated loon I saw. This was a week ago and he was on a huge blue hole pond about 15 minutes from the bay. I know they are reported along the coast on large lakes, even up until the last couple weeks.

why we are on the subject of birds. Today I was out and saw a summer tanager are these a common occurence around the pines? I took a double take at because it looked like a tropical bird. Unfortunately I had just gotten out of my jeep and couldn't get to my camera in time.

Was it a common or red-throated? Did it still have its winter plummage gray on white?

The behavior to me sounds like a loon. I saw a red throated loon last week and he would dive under and reappear like 100 ft away maybe more. The coloring sounds odd though. Google common loons or red throated loons one of those may be the duck.

Yeah those spotted turtles love that tire, especially that female in particular. The camera is a canon eos rebel xt and I'm still getting use to all its bells and whistles as you can see.

Went out hiking today and looking for wildlife. Saw 5 black racers, 6 spotted turtles, 2 fowler's toads, tmtc musks, redbellies, and paints, and 1 male box turtle. A pretty good day for me, here are some pics,

Rat snake is a nice find, I've never seen one of those out there. I would say that manumuskin has the largest population of fence swifts I've seen. I literally see a dozen to two dozen ever time out. Did you get to the sand wash blue ponds or sand mine ruins?
