Who needs GPS? Barnegat Lighthouse to shine again after 82 years

I'll leave my camera home when I visit the lighthouse, or if I take in the Forked River Mountain view. :) I do want to see it, though. I'm not down at East Point too much, but when I am, the beacon instills such a feeling of calm, peace. And it'll be quite an honor to shake that hand, Mr...

Bonzai Kid, Look at Jeff's linked pictures again. He saw and photographed the duck blind. Jeff's photos are great. We should drag one of our canoes up there and have a shooting session from the water's perspective. I'd like to do this on Skit Branch, too. Do GPSs work when you float...

    Roberts Branch

Roberts Branch was the area of choice today for 'poorbill and the Snapper (whips both). The former was full of confidence as he was jaunting around all zigzagged for the first time with a GPS in his hand. Snap still laid out the trip. I wouldn't recommend anyone try to visit the area without...

    Merry Christmas !

Magellan Triton (400); it's a similar model to the one my guru owns. I told Santa the learning process would be simpler this way, if he would only stuff one down my chimney. I've spent the better part of the past three days trying to install software, getting everything to talk to each other...

Traffic ... early 70s. When the eagle flies... ...and when the seas subside you'll see him glide right out of view in clouds of snow the rains will come and wash away all the scum so all the little flowers can grow. ... no more taking only giving and the sunshine pouring down no...

    barren nights

Jeff, A few weeks back, when exploring the Burlington/Atlantic line, I noted many grounded dead-pine skeletons. Many more than usual. It was in a area where a fire wreaked havoc a decade or so ago, giving the pines a chance to mysteriously deteriorate. :) I love the look of them, too. Bill

Alfie, Turns out I have allies. I've recruited a team of pea shooters and you're going to be subjected to a barrage of cranberry bombardment never witnessed before in pine barren floral-warfare history. :) Still, I missed being out there with you today. I hope you're feeling better...

    close encounter

Man, you take some weird photos. :) Curious, what time of day were these taken? I'm guessing dusk, when there was still some available twilight? You certainly nailed the top one, Mike. Nice job.

    barren nights

Al's a war veteran and has been combat trained. I, on the other hand, am pretty much a pacifist, so my goal is to simply humiliate. For this, I'll have to use my brain (yes, the very same organ my foe slices up in an above post). Yer right, Tom. Plan considered, I won't go for his knees...

    barren nights

I laid some of my heaviest contemporary fiction on him -- John Barth's Letters is the one that chewed him up and spit him out -- only to earn some respect. Al is, as I've told him, quite loquacious, can read most books and recite them word-for-word ten years later, but does have a...

Thoughts on ATV use in New Jersey.

I've been in countless areas where ATVs have left scars upon delicate environs in the pinelands. For example, this past Tuesday, at the final bog visited, on the fringe of the Great Swamp, I noted to Al where an ATV had picked a path between two spaced trees, entered the bog, and did a huge...

This painting of Al was commissioned by the Swamp Monster Historical Society soon after his repairing of the boggy beast. Signed copies are available at the Batsto Visitors Center (for $800 -- cheap!!!). Proceeds go to my personal TastyKake Acquisition Fund. Whip

    barren nights

island hopping Alfie stuck a GPS in my hand today -- first time I've held one in my life -- in an attempt to get me to go in a straight line. Usually, my camera is my compass and Al, these past Tuesdays, has tired of seeing our tracks look like a series of Zs. He challenged me to find...
