For me the must sees would be Apple Pie Hill and Forked River Mountains.

Apple Pie Hill is one of the main places in the NJ Pine Barrens I want to get to, right up there with Forked River Mountains. Now if only I can figure out how to get there....by bus.:jd:

Yup, the earliest I ever started seeing "candles" forming on pitch pines. A select few trees, but disturbing nonetheless. Normally we dont start seeing them until mid-April. People have already reported some crocuses coming up too. No buds on the oaks...yet. I guess I should break out...

Its a shame because I love the tools on Google Earth, but they have the pine barrens split up between summer and winter (on both our barrens). East section is summer and west section is winter.

I can think of exactly two. Medford (a town in central Suffolk near the pine barrens), Southampton township (a village and a township on the south fork, also located in the pine barrens). Many of these names probably came from english settlers.

Yeah sometimes I have trouble keeping up with them. I dont go on these hikes that much because I like to stop and take pictures, they don't. It must be rough canoeing in winter though, with the ice and all.

I see what you're saying, everyone should feel the pain. But I don't get why they should close parks, sure they can close some pools and stuff like that, but how much can it possibly cost the state to have hikers on trails? As far as trail maintanance, you can get volunteer groups to maintain...

I'm gonna be using the live search maps now more too, because Google Earth has decided to put summertime satellite views up, and with all the decidious tree growth it is hard to make out the trails now. And now its impossible to see pine stands.:bang:

Those are some beautiful pictures, I love those vistas where fire opened the woods up and new seedlings grow in. The roads look tough though, that's why they invented trucks. Out here some folks who dont have trucks try to drive down those roads, like those city slickers who got their BMW X5...
