    Bass River Fire Tower proposal

Update: DEP has withdrawn their application to the Pinelands Commission to cut the trees. Meaning it won't go before an administrative law judge, and they won't be suing the Pinelands Commission. But they do plan to re-submit a new application at some later date, "with additional public...

National Public Lands Day is Sat 9/22

NEEF (National Environmental Education Foundation) National Public Lands Day web page: https://www.neefusa.org/npld I know of only 2 Pinelands events. 1. National Public Lands Day at Wharton State Forest, Sat 9/22 10:30am - 2:30pm at Batsto, "Join us for trail upkeep workday". This is listed...

    Bass River Fire Tower proposal

Something I found interesting in the article, that I had not seen reported anywhere else. There were a lot of public comments - and here in this thread - about why don't they use, or at least try, cameras. Turns out NJ-DEP had previously installed 2 cameras for fire watch, one in Ocean County...

Detailed (really detailed) coverage of the Pinelands Commission vote, from the Pine Barrens Tribune: "‘Unprecedented’: Pinelands Commission Fails to Approve Controversial Clearcutting Application"...

Does anybody know what this metal hardware is ?

To me, it looks like an industrial catwalk, that might be seen suspended over a huge tank of toxic chemicals. A nice bridge blends in with its surroundings, like this one.

Does anybody know what this metal hardware is ?

Sorry, but it's ugly. Just my opinion. I like the idea of a bridge there, but that thing looks seriously out of place in the Pinelands.

    Bass River Fire Tower proposal

Thanks, yes I see now. Apparently there are 3 possibilities. (1) It goes to an Administrative Law Judge who would decide if the tree clearing should go ahead or not. (2) DEP sues and it goes to Appellate Court to decide. (3) Gov Murphy vetos the commission meeting minutes, tossing the ball back...

    RAIN?

I was at Bass River SF on Monday, and it was pretty impressive. Water was pouring through waterways that usually just 'seep' or barely move. The lake spillway was all white foam at the base, and it's been mostly dry for the past couple of weeks. The trails were dry but there were clumps of stuff...

    Bass River Fire Tower proposal

Wow. That is quite a surprise to me. I knew the vote was Friday, but looking at the materials for the meeting it looked like it was a done deal and just waiting for them to sign it. Question: The article you linked to said the next step is to go before a judge, "creating the possibility of a...

    Doghouse Platform?

There's an article on page B1 of today's Phila Inquirer about the LBI platform. Up top is a "dogloo", and Ben Wurst (of Conserve Wildlife NJ) bought it at Pet Smart for $229.99. He also is the one who built the platform for it.

There's litter, there's dumping, and then there's this...

State Park Service knows about. I'm not sure if they reported it to State Park Police or not. Also it's possible SPS removed it already, and it should be left in place to report to SPP. I spoke to someone else today, not connected to the state, and she was 100% sure this was stolen, engine...

Does anybody know what this metal hardware is ?

What the old bridge looked like in October 2010, after it got damaged and before they demolished and removed it. (View is from the opposite shore versus the first photo in this thread.)

Yes, good point. It has to be reported to them, and I need to find out if it was already reported or I'm supposed to do it.

Looks like it's in good condition, doesn't it? Kind of want to climb on and make vroom-vroom noises... State Park Service guy told me it has no engine, though - he checked. I wouldn't know where to look.

Does anybody know what this metal hardware is ?

Is this the Mullica River Trail (yellow blazed) in Wharton State Forest, where the trail used to cross the waterway known as either Mechescatauxin Creek or Sleeper Branch, after it leaves Toms Pond Trail? It sure looks like it, although I think your picture was taken from the northeast side...
