Halloween at Maurice River Bluffs Preserve

That’s the name I was thinking of. I would bet they were mining clay and gravel and not sand because sand seems typically to be dredged. I got to look for the shed next time I’m out there

Halloween at Maurice River Bluffs Preserve

What was the name of the sand company that mined it I forget. Started with a P I think? Also last time I was out there I found some furnace slag on the northern end of the preserve fairly close to silver run rd…may have been on the vehicle road that’s gated off that leads straight from silver...

Halloween at Maurice River Bluffs Preserve

I was born and raised a few miles from here in the southern most part of Vineland and I’ve always known it to be pronounced “Mar-iss” although when it comes out of my mouth maybe it sounds more like “Morris”. I’ve also been asked by people where I’m from when they think I talk like I’m from down...

    Flashlight of Choice?

I use Astro Pneumatic 52SL extensively in my field of work. I would consider it a “drop light” but is great for lighting a large area at close range. Very tough as well.

    Where is this?

It was called some name that sounded Indian I’m not even going to try to type it out :) oak-e-win-oak-e something like that. He was born in ‘54 so it burned between then and however old is too old to be a Boy Scout. Someone fixed the bridge within the last few years

    Where is this?

Close. Further upstream on the west side of the Manumuskin it’s an old bow club that burned down in mid to late 60s. Located on Forge Ave (on Hartman’s maps) it’s in the area where Eli Budd’s iron forge was located. My dad was a Boy Scout and at the time they were camping farther down union rd...

What new things would you like to see here?

As a new member here I am always searching old threads to find info about historical areas but I notice I’m unable to search for a word or a name less than 4 letters long. Would it be possible to tweak that? For example if I wanted to search threads for the name Eli Bud (correctly spelled Budd)...

    Ticks & Chiggers--a study

I come home shower and hope for the best. If anything we are better prepared then those of the previous centuries. It’s a 50/50 in my mind!

    Chigged!

One of the few good things about winter time no chiggers when your crawling through the woods

    What are these features?

I like how the LIDAR proves the old cranberry bogs that were present near 100 years ago or more for example at Leamings Mill and Bennett’s Mill. At least that’s what I believe these lines to be? https://boydsmaps.com/#16.96/39.404508/-74.977709/mbx3dmidatl/-13.86/0.00...

    Chigged!

It’s been years since I’ve been walking in the deep woods during summer as much as I have been this year due to a shoulder injury and permethrin has worked great knock on wood for both ticks and chiggers. I use it every year during turkey season as well works great. When I get chiggers I just...

    Announcing the new NJPB Maps

They sell SD card readers that plug into my IPhone to see pictures from my game cameras maybe that would work? I’m sure they sell them for androids as well

Boyd, what are the new aerials we’re getting if you want to spoil the surprise? I’m excited your maps are AWESOME. I’m constantly using the LIDARs since discovering them(usually on Boydmaps.com).

    Manumuskin River

Me too getting my shoulder fixed next Friday. Just finished reading this report or whatever it would be called https://www.cumauriceriver.org/ConservationPlan2.pdf I’m sure you read it before but very fascinating and it points out some of the survey stones you mentioned before. I realized while...

    Mounted State Police

Was reading this today and found it fascinating I am sure you are all familiar already but it mentions not having bridges that could handle the weight of a horse and buggy until the early 19th century you had to ride horseback instead when traveling. I thought that was interesting...

    Manumuskin River

Interesting read. Now that I think about it I didn’t see it much anywhere except where this photo was taken which happens to have the most human traffic, although I’m pretty sure I saw it sparsely growing on the rest of the bank. I will pay more attention next time I’m in the swamps
