NJ Forest Fire Impacts 30 Acres

I'm not sure hat you mean by "everything". But to answer the rest of your question, I do believe that massive, hot fires have sustained our Pine Barrens eco system in the past and should continue to do so now and into the future. Do you have reasons for thinking otherwise? If so, I'd like to...

NJ Forest Fire Impacts 30 Acres

The controlled burn practice needs to be changed. These dinky little burns don't to much except leave scars in the woods. And these scars keep adding up.

NJ Forest Fire Impacts 30 Acres

JerseyDevil, I'd like to learn more about this. There were dozens of new trenches dug near the burn area, and there was no sign of a controlled burn around many of them. I also noticed a bunch of older trenches that parallel some roads. What's the purpose of that?

NJ Forest Fire Impacts 30 Acres

Did some exploring in the burnt area today. It has never been more clear to me that the fire breaks are completely useless.

    Jersey Devil Alternate Origin

Yeah, I like this hypothesis, as it gives the tale some sort of tangible, historical basis. Traditional Quakers were rather Puritanical in code. While they were more theologically "liberal" than the Calvinistic Puritans, they were nonetheless very strict in their devotion to what they believed...

    Jersey Devil Alternate Origin

Jeff, thanks for the info. It's been too long since I read McCloy's books. Which alternate theories do you regard as equally plausible as the Titan Leeds hypothesis?

    Jersey Devil Alternate Origin

I like this theory best: http://www.csicop.org/si/show/the_jersey_devil_the_real_story/ Isn't it true that tales of a woods-dwelling creature called the Jersey Devil didn't make it to the scene until the early 20th century?
