Geologist Blends Science and Folklore of the Jersey Devil

“Yes, you can see what people think are mine shafts filled with water, but these are pits made from quickly melting permafrost.” The same types of holes or pits are being found in Siberia today as permafrost melts due to global warming, he said. Could gas explosions have formed our blue holes...

    Mullica Put-in Options

Gonna be a lot longer than 45 minutes from Constable Bridge to Crowley's Landing. If you plan to stop here and there and poke around a bit, count on a 3 hour trip.

    Hampton upper forge?

I stand corrected. While I still believe that Upper Forge was located at the confluence of Robbin's Branch and the Batsto River, the only forge in the area depicted on Gordon's map is the one "in ruins".

    Bottle hunting reccomendations

Stamos, If you find a bottle in the woods and you take it home to preserve it as a historical artifact, I think you are doing good. However, I would consider donating them if any historical society or museum could make use for it.

    Joe Mulliner

I got a hold of a copy of the aforementioned PhD dissertation. The chapter on Mulliner is the most in-depth historical treatment of his legacy. Unfortunately, it didn't get too deep, since there is so little verifiable information on Mulliner. A very good read, nonetheless, and the pieces of...
