Bear shot in Essex County today :(

The state of New Jersey did a bloody awful job handling this situation. Why was no forestry, animal control, or forestry officer/ranger on hand to handle this? I work with many people who tranqulize animals up to 5 times larger than bear, why was this handled with such ineptitude. There is no...

    Harrisville Ruins

The fence is there indeed to keep people out, usually an unprotected site is one that, unfortunately, will be looted and vandalized.

    Guns, Guns, Guns

Well said Chris, I agree wholeheartedly. Until the culture in question changes its value system, which includes a deeper value in education and the commitment of two parents, things will not change no matter if the news shows these commercials every hour on the hour.

Body Id'd at Brendan Byrne SF

Cities have no monopoly on crime. Not only Camden in the south but look at some areas of Glassboro, and then look at Newark in the north. Lots of small communites have pockets of poverty and crime, open spaces do not mean safety in living conditions.

    Guns, Guns, Guns

It seems like they pop this off every single year and it does nothing to deter crime. I walk the city streets and see clothes and t-shirts ("Don't Snitch") that glamorize violence and a drug related culture. While looking at that arsenal on t.v. is thought provoking and disturbing in suburbia...

    Connetquot State Park

Are all the trails multi-use, or are some designated as just for walking? Sharing spaces with horses can make for a landmine hike, not one of my favorite types. Enjoyed your pics.

    Personal issue related to sweating

Try some next generation clothing, cotton is the enemy of hikers. Polypropalene, spelled wrong I'm sure, has excellent wicking qualities that remove the sweat from your body and keeps you dry. They also tend to be tear resitant and have an antibacterial coating that removes odor, its great for...

O.k. I gotcha, still not for me, but I'm glad to hear that its not done solely for the enjoyment of killing such wonderful animals.

No camping - Flood? What a joke

Geez, I didn't realize that high an amount was private holdings. Perhaps the opposite side of the river then.

No camping - Flood? What a joke

I have been mulling possible locations over and have come up with the following: Somewhere between Washington Pike, in Wharton, and 563 or Bulltown Road. This spot of land offers a little scenic swamp and water views and is removed from major roads or public land holdings. Or somewhere off...

    Fox hunting in Lebonon?

I always felt pretty much the same, not the pet thing, but the hunting thing, but thats just a lifestyle choice. Some probably find me crazy for the hundreds of hiking miles I pump out every year, so who am I to judge. I do enjoy watching them much more than I would killing them though.

    camping help!

MFWILLIE, I'm a by no means a pro on The FRM's, but I have driven some of the roads and great views abound. Don't think any camping is allowed in the area and I found them pretty hiker unfriendly. The Union Clay works and fire tower are both pretty cool in that area, but offer only off trail...

    Fox hunting in Lebonon?

Cant say I know anything of Fox hunting, or any hunting for that matter, but its probably my favorite animal to encounter. They never fail to possess smarts and cunning. Ran into one last year in Wharton, and he trailed me for a few miles after a lunch stop. Think he was hoping to get some...
