Ice Age relicts at Ground Zero

This may not be the most appropriate forum for this thread, but it arguably pertains to archeaology. :) Actually, a Geology forum would be ideal. Say, Ben, how about making a geology forum? http://gothamist.com/2008/09/22/traces_of_the_ice_age_at_ground_zer.php

Religious experience in the Pine's anyone?

Jerseyman, thanks a bunch for posting that photo! I'd never seen it before. That place is sacred to me. My grandfather is buried there. I can certainly say I've had some spiritual moments there, although, oddly enough, I've never attended a Sunday service. Someday, perhaps.

    philadelphia eagles

#%&* them indeed! The birds lost a tight one tonight, but I saw enough from them to convince me that they are real contenders.

Religious experience in the Pine's anyone?

Religious? Hmmm... One suggested etymology of "religion" is that it derives from "religio", meaning "to relink", ie. reconnect one's soul to its source. The Pines give me a childhood nostalgia that has kept me from forgetting who I am. The history of the Pines, as well as its natural...

    Andy's Tech Support Question

I've had that problem at some sites, but never here. andy, its good to get into the habit of saving your work before posting it, even if it simply means copying the text before posting so that you can just repaste it.

One mother of an ore pond and something else?

How far up Springer's Brook was the slag and stuff? You can answer thsi via pm if you prefer. Some of these old ponds stretched miles upstream, flooding the floodplain. New Pond on the Mullica, for example, spanned from just below the confluence of the Mechescatuxin and the Atsion creeks all...

    1st Time to Jemima Mt

I'm curious as you say that the spung had a hard bottom prior to being torn up by the truck. Was the bottom compacted with vegetable matter which was loosened up by the truck? Illuminating post. Keep them coming!

    The Slag Thread

This discussion came up between Ben and I as we were poking around the West Mill Creek in search for the site of Batsto forge. Along a few spots on the stream, loads of slag could be seen along the river banks and bottom. One of these spots I believe to have been the Batsto Forge site. Another...

One mother of an ore pond and something else?

Awesome stuff, Jeff. A great mystery indeed. I am eager to get back there when the bugs die off and the foliage clears up. One thing to consider is that the spot along the river where you found the slag could have been sumberged for some time under the lake that once served lower forge. Just...
