    Bald Eagle sighting

Last Summer, there were a pair of bal eagles that hung around the Forks of the Mullica. I saw them just about everyday. I only spotted one this year, and have been wondering why. I heard that a pair of bald eagles were shot "locally" and that they are in a zoo (Cape May, if I recall)...

Kayaked from Atsion to Pleasant Mills

Yeah, those savannahs are among the prettiest in the Pines.

    New Kayak

Last spring, my girlfriend and I took a canoe down the Atsion Creek. Ten minutes into the trip, we came upon a group of a dozen or so renters on kayaks that were trying to get past a downed tree. We patiently waited about 15 minutes for them to each get out of their kayaks and lift their boats...

    1st Time to Jemima Mt

Ah, thanks Guy! I wonder how many unnamed hills there are in the area. I'd like to find. It's about time I got myself a good topo map of the Pines.

    1st Time to Jemima Mt

I recently came across a reference to Jemima Mount in which the hill was called "Jeremia Mount". I wonder which one is the corruption. mike2424, besides the well-known Apple Pie Hill and the Forked River Hillocks, some names of other hills in the Pines include Bear Swamp Hill and Spring...

Putting in and out of the Mullica.

I'm assuming you are talking about the Church at Pleasant Mills? If so, that is the Nescochague Creek which runs behind the church. You can take out on the Mullica a stone's throw from the Church at the official canoe landing just off route 542. That's a beautiful trip to be sure.

LARGO, when are coming to reclaim your canoe? Maybe we could take it out for a quick paddle.

    New Kayak

True that. Kayaking is certianly easier, no doubt about that. Ah, that's an idea. Maybe this site could do an out-of-State canoe/camp trip on Lake Champlain. Champ, here we come!

    Beaverdam Lake/ SH** head jeepers

"White Trash Puddle"....that's catchy. Fall paddling is where it's at.

Nah, you just have to weigh down the front with a heavy cooler of goods. Then it's smooth sailing.

    McCormick Ave. island in Sweetwater

I don't think that wooden bulkheads tend to last very long. But let's give due credit to the thousands of boats and jet skis which have shortened the lives of many bulkheads in the last few decades. :argh:

    New Kayak

There is alot to be said for canoeing. A canoe offers the chance to work as a team as well as alot of storage room for beer.

    McCormick Ave. island in Sweetwater

pandot, the pilings you see are from a bulkhead that was built sometime in the 60's I believe. The small building you saw is also recent, and was probably just a storage shack. I do believe that the channel on the south side of the island was dug out in order to accomodate the many vessels...

    Bigfoot....

Thanks, Sue. Still, there was a local population of 100,000 that were not known to exist until recently. Oh the possibilities...:ghost:

    Bigfoot....

So grendel, on the one hand you say that it is foolish to even consider the possibility of the existence of sasquatch, yet on the other hand you claim to have seen one. Do you think yourself a fool? So why do you believe the screams you heard in the Pines were sasquatch screams? Did they...

    A Late Sunday Spung Hunt

Good point, Mark. Hyrdology, I am told, can be a wacky thing. The Carolina Bays of the Southern Atlantic Coastal Plain (which are geomorphically akin to our South Jersey Spungs) exhibit unusual hydrological behaviour. I've read that some of these enclosed wetlands may be dry one year and wet...

    Bigfoot....

At this juncture, I'm not comfortable ruling it out altogether. Wasn't there a large group of a newly discovered species of Africa apes that recently made the headlines? In all fairness, I must admit to being a bit of a romantic when it comes to cryptozoology.
