    Wharton Wheelin'

You do not need 4 WD if you know some of the hard packed roads and avoid some of the slop holes. Largo from this site does the cleanup with a 2WD S-10. Roads like Quaker Bridge Road, Hampton Furnace Road, Sandy Causeway off of Chew Road, are all navigable with 2WD. If you hook up with a...

    Wharton Wheelin'

Well I guess I will continue with the hi-jack of this thread. I was very disappointed last year with the lack of support of the cleanup from members of this board. One day a year can be easily set as a priority. I have a special bias towards Wharton because I live here. I would venture to say...

    Wharton Wheelin'

There is no wheelin' to be done west of 206 within Wharton. Seriously, take a close look at the 7.5 minute Atsion and Hammonton Quads. Pay no attention to your software.

    Country Living Fair

Ran into Largo at around 1:30. The weather was absolutely perfect. I noticed there were a few more vendors this year and more antique vehicles. I go to a few rural Pennsylvania county fairs each year and the Batsto event is a nice substitute close to home.

    Country Living Fair

Most of the hit and miss engies are hooked up to something. Some are pumping water, some shelling corn and one of the larger steam engines is shaving cedar shakes. I cancelled my fishing trip for today so I will be at Batsto. Probably be there by 1:00 p.m.

    Pine Barrens Jamboree 10-14-06

I don't think I will be making the Batsto deal. My younger boy is coming home from college for the weekend and wants to give the stripers a shot on Sunday in Cape May while my boat is still in the water. Its still early for stripers but its worth a try. I may try the Jamboree on Saturday.

    Hunting Seasons Begin This Weekend

In most cases and this is my opinion, if a hunter is bothered by hikers or other non hunters during the hunt, then he may need to hunt deeper. I have a couple of ace in the hole kind of spots that are a close to populated areas in the state woods and I am occassionally screwed over by some dog...

    Hunting Seasons Begin This Weekend

I would like to point out to those who don't know, that there is a difference between a Wildlife Management Area and a State Forest. All are multiple use and open to the general public but the WMA's are managed for wildlife enhancement and fishing resources. The purchase and managemnet of...

    Hunting Seasons Begin This Weekend

Bob Not too many years ago if anyone shot or trapped fox or coyote they were going to be skinned out and the furs sold. The market is still there but not as active as it once was. Trappers are slowly dwindling and if a bowhunter takes a fox or coyote today, they are most likely going to get a...

    Hunting Seasons Begin This Weekend

I always wear a tree belt at the very least. I have the full harness which is a lot safer but its a PITA to use. Fortunately, I have only had one tree stand mishap in 38 years of hunting . 2 years ago while descending, the platform piece came off my feet, fell to the ground and landed on my...

    Hunting Seasons Begin This Weekend

For those who sometimes seem shocked or dismayed when they encounter gun-toting or bow-toting people in the pines, this Saturday marks the opening of fall bow for deer and firearm for squirrel. A few zones opened for bow the first Saturday in September but bow will be open statewide this...

    1st Time to Jemima Mt

Down here in Pestletown the Forest Fire Service just finished dozing and "fixing" about a mile and a half of woods road off the end of my street. They turned a passable road with several hard-bottomed holes into a total disaster. The hard-bottomed holes are now 100' stretches of slop with the...

    Spungs

"Spongs" are lumped in with the vernal ponds inventoried by NJDEP. There are several here in Waterford in the mapped inventory. Here is a link to the vernal pond research: http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/ensp/vernalpool.htm Scott

    Wild turkey?

The young are called poults. The reintroduction of wild turkey to NJ is one of the greatest successes ever managed by Fish and Game. The program was in its early stages in 1979 when I had a classs at Rutgers in wildlife management. The Fish and Game guys gave us a demo of shotgun netting and...

Brick and Morter for Hi-Lift Jack?

I have been doing this for over 30 years and I can tell you that the only thing you should use a chain for is anchoring to a tree. Chains transmit too much shock to the frame if you have to have someone yank you out. King is right. Buy a 30' 3" or 4" wide Keeper brand recovery strap.3" is more...
