    Found In My Back Yard

I think that is a chain and pin for a latch on a large gate, maybe a swing gate for a horse pasture. The hardware would mount the chain to the post.

The Mead & Crane Sawmill At Sandy Ridge

Kbright64, if you zoom in the historic aerials link you can clearly see most of the buildings in the 1956 aerial. I know of two foundations that can't be seen clearly in any of the aerials and the one you came across is one of them. The small packing house should be the building towards the far...

    Where is Calico Ridge?

Boyd, it is something I noticed. I don't know if there is any validity to it. It could very well be a peculiarity in several areas.

    Where is Calico Ridge?

I should have explained the position from where I was looking at the elevation. The wind would be blowing from the NW, so the steeper elevation would be facing towards that direction.

    Where is Calico Ridge?

Pinelandpaddler, have you ever notice on the topos that the elevation frequently ramps up facing a Northwest direction in many areas in the barrens. I have never researched on the subject but I thought it may be from winds blowing across the glaciers or a combination of thawing and winds from...

    Capewell Glass Negative Collection

Teegate, the sawmill base that Ecampbell found after the burn, is that the M/C base or is there another? The base I am referring to is pictured in the sawmill location thread. #6 http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/threads/sawmill-locations.5379/#post-61718

    Manchester re-zones for development

Spung-man, somehow, you need to become head of the Pinelands Commission. This would solve your problems.;)

    Where is Calico Ridge?

There is that typical Northwestern ramp in the Barren's topography. Could this be a cause of glacial winds?

    Capewell Glass Negative Collection

Now that Jerseyman and Wilceau have pinned downed the location of the sawmill, I'm inspired to circle around the M and C sawmill base to see if any of the saw dust remains. There would have to be something still left from a pile of that size. I am going to have to take a close look at the...

    Silver Fox Up For Auction

Would the name remain the same or would it be changed? The "Salt Lick" would be a very cool name, or if following Oji's theme, a good name would be "Scottie's Flying Tailgate".:)

    Harrisville Pond

Very nice set Manu! The 'sweg is always a great area to hike. You should revisit the area during the next few months because there may be some beautiful flowers in bloom in the riverside bogs you photographed. I can see Sophie is no different than any other lab, in that they are always head down...

Harrisville Lake to Wading River Canal

From what I have read in the "Final Report of the State Geologist, Volume 7", page 283, the canal was used to divert water from the west branch of the Wading River into the pond to increase the capacity, giving the total tributary water-shed for power a total of 155 square miles. The added water...

Looking for PB Tree Frogs and other amphibians

JJ, any of the Friendship bogs would be a prime area for enjoying the evening song. Walking the high roads that separate the bogs during the early evening makes for great opening as the frogs start their chorus. Their singing can be hypnotic at times.:)

    Earthquake or ?

Would you believe that I can hear and feel the thumps of the exploding shells here in Trenton? The overcast sky and temperatures are perfect for long range acoustics. At first, I thought it was the the power plant at Duck Island venting steam or blowing out the stacks, but soon came to realize...
