Big Chrome and Plenty of Rust

Many thanks to the members who tipped me off to other locations of forgotten vehicles which have reached the end of the road in the pines. Yesterday I planned a hike around several locations and the trip was perfect because of the snow and clear skies. I still get excited when I find an old car...

Military Operations around Coyle Field Today?

I am not quite sure what was going on but it may have been something came off an aircraft or it was a drill simulating such an accident. I don't think a parachute missed the field because I didn't see any planes practicing. There was a an Air Force roll back car carrier parked by RT 72 that I...

Military Operations around Coyle Field Today?

The birds were noisy grey hueys. Several times one had to rise up to avoid hitting the taller pine trees. Freerider is farther south of where this was happening, which was along Rt 72. On the other hand, he could have made it that far north.:D

Military Operations around Coyle Field Today?

Has anyone heard what was going on today by Coyle Field? I some how got between two road blocks on Stephenson Road, around noon, and was politely asked to leave when I reached two Airforce SUVs parked across the road. There was a flurry of ground activity and several helicopters were skimming...

    Pinks are up....

The tracks are from from a 4x4 that tried crossing the gap but became stuck. The one section of the hole is filled with logs so that they could get out. I hope the whole section washes out. It will only be beneficial upstream because of lower water levels. Besides the large gravel make up of the...

    Pinks are up....

46er, the water levels are still high by the boardwalk. The water is even backed up beyond 539. I hope no one get hurt coming from the direction I took the picture. There is a sweeping curve before the washout.

    Retreat Preserve...A PBX Special Hike

A wall of briers hanging in brush taller than a man is some of the hardest hiking you can do. My favorites are the dry spikes at ear/cheek height. You have to admit the girl has spunk!:D

    Union Clay Company 5-26-08

An older thread, but none the less this beautiful morning was spent basically duplicating what Mark had to report. Jerseyman answered some questions but I still have a few. The threaded rods were for a steam engine that powered piston bellows for the kiln(s)? Also, there are two pits immediately...

    Pinks are up....

I was behind Webbs Mill today and the road is impassible. The pipe is almost washed out on both sides from the water eroding the road. What little sand that is supporting the pipe won't last long.

    Google Earth Aerials

Thanks Al. I am up to speed now. You are opening a GPX file that is already saved on the computer, while I was importing my tracks directly from my handheld (Garmin). Cool.

    Google Earth Aerials

So that I am on the same page with everyone, when using GE, you are importing your GPS file via the tool path? Are you also marking off the three boxes next to import: waypoints, tracks and routes?

    It's a Bird...It's a Plane...

A very creative design for an RC plane. The prankster in me would have a great time with the endless possibilities of this toy.

    Capewell Glass Negative Collection

The name of the station is on the end of the boarding area roof, but there isn't enough detail in the to make out anything specific. In the second picture, follow the angled and upright passenger car roof to the boarding area - a faint name plate is barely visible.

    Google Earth Aerials

Boyd, I saw the ground resolution limit of .5 repeated on GeoEye's site and several others. I haven't found the exact regulation but it has to do with U.S. governments license restrictions. -The origin of .5 meter ground resolution has to with an operating agreement between NOAA and GeoEye-1...

    Google Earth Aerials

Years ago I was watching the show Frontline and an image analyst hinted that it was possible for them to date a dime in a football field. Granted this could have been sensationalism for the show. We will never see what satellites are fully capable of, U.S. regulation prohibit commercial...

    My Pine Barren Memories--2012

Hey, a brook isn't a creek!:D Thanks for the ID Bobpbx. I need much more practice to develop my piney-fu. Joking aside, I have explored some areas of wet cedar near Mt. Misery but I have yet to put any hard miles along the brook itself. Eventually I will be able to say ' I have been there!'.

    My Pine Barren Memories--2012

I'm not a piney yet, I still need many more years under my belt, but the I was bouncing back and forth between the Tulp or Cedar.
