    ætna furnace, Tuckahoe

That's what I was thinking. On the last day of the furnace did they just let it go out of blast by walking away from it, or did things get wound down properly?

I saw very similar slag at Hanover Furnace.

    Old Camp?

You probably were at Ace Campground. This is what it looked like back in 2004. The state came along and bulldozed the place because people had come along and trashed it.

    And so it begins....

What we are witnessing is the modern day equivalent of that Jetport wanting to be built. Except now there's no John McPhee to write a book about what's happening. I wonder how long it will take until there's a SUPER Wawa in Chatsworth?

Oh, and as to where the furnace was, here's a map: http://maps.njpinebarrens.com/#lat=39.30722301965558&lng=-74.81163740158081&z=15&type=hist&gpx=

    And so it begins....

Reading the comments on that APP article reminded me of the reason why I don't go to the APP site anymore. "Two snakes cost us our SUPER WALMART." Really? Toms River needs a SUPER Walmart when there's a regular Walmart right down the road?

    ætna furnace, Tuckahoe

Folks, Here's two images scanned from "Early Forges and Furnaces in New Jersey" by Charles Boyer. The level of detail in the second photo is pretty amazing. I'd be willing to bet that this is the photograph that Spung Man's drawing was based off of. The book goes on to describe the...

    Boots

I got a nice pair of Alpine Design boots at Sports Authority. Waders and whatnot can be bought at Wal-Mart or Sports Authority. A lot of time the PBX crew will hike in waders to keep the bugs out (and also because it's a pain to change into waders mid-hike.)

Also, the Clinton Rd. iron furnace. Built like a pyramid. From http://lostinjersey.wordpress.com/2009/03/20/clinton-road/

Why does the stack in the drawing look much smaller than in the photograph?

    ætna furnace, Tuckahoe

Interesting how similar it is to the Allaire furnace stack, except that the chimney itself looks more insulated at Aetna. Maybe because it was built earlier? Also interesting to see a round stack when most furnaces seemed to be shaped like pyramids.

    Jeep Wrangler TJ carpet

Back in the day I had a little "Jeep meets lake" incident with my Grand Cherokee. I ended up finding an online Chrysler dealer and buying factory carpet for about $200. Came pre-molded and obviously matched the interior perfectly. Might be worth getting a price for a factory carpet as well.

"Driverless" ATV seen on Route 18

From what I remember of Marlboro (I grew up kinda/sorta in that area) the soil wasn't sandy at all, and there were few Pines.

There's a fair amount of woods up there. Not pines, though.

It was more than that, but everything's been resolved a long time ago and we're all pals again. :)

    Netflix

It works like Front Row. http://www.plexapp.com I use the Apple remote to control it. My TV has a VGA input, so it works just like a big monitor.
