Remington makes a very nice AR-15 hunting rifle which many hunters use for varmints and predators. Capacity for both .204 and .223 calibers depends on the legal requirements of the state the owner resides. For a New Jersey resident the maximum is fifteen but for quite some time we were limited...

    Batona Trail Re-route

Thanks for posting the photographs Karl. I have never gotten around to hiking the area behind Chatsworth Lake, even though I have hawked over the aerials wondering what the land looked like behind there. I wonder if the Batona will ever be rerouted again through Sooy(?) Preserve just above the...

Old Crazy, have you ever seen a concrete blond Red-tailed hawk?

    Tuckahoe WMA

Manu, why don't you stop to say hello and ask who ever you see there if you can take a look at the foundations. The worst they could say is "no".

    Tuckahoe WMA

I took another look and noticed the building is a gun club, not a retreat. If you zoom out you can see the stations for shooting clays and what also appears to be a lighted archery range.

From what can be seen in the aerial view, the house may be a church retreat. - Boyd, have you read that the GeoEye-2 will be operational in 2013. It won't be a rival to LIDAR but, the image resolution of the sensor is suppose to be incredible.

    Retreat Preserve...A PBX Special Hike

Thanks Woodjin. I thought that the bogs wrapped around and followed the water way to the left and down, connecting to what was clearly visible in the lower part of the picture.

    Retreat Preserve...A PBX Special Hike

It is interesting to see what is still hidden a few steps into the woods from a development. The faint grid pattern that can be seen in the top right of the aerial view of the route, is that part of the bog complex? From the looks of the water control structure the bogs had to be massive.

    Historic shipwreck Mays Landing

I always enjoy the story behind how a ship's final resting place came to be, a validation of some sort I suppose. There are many remains like this rotting away in the Hamilton marsh just along side of the Delaware river. Most of those are canal barges abandoned in place above lock one when the...

    The Geminids are coming....

A quick edit eliminated the distracting red traffic light. A very subtle but pleasant change to the overall feel to the simple picture. I am looking forward to next summer and capturing the Milky Way in this frame.

Bobpbx, I saw wide eyed nervous people who had idea what they why they were there. I would say it was fear with a pinch of paranoia. I felt out of place when all I had was a bag of apple and hickory chips.

This afternoon as we were out shopping, I stopped by the local sports store to pick up wood chips for smoking. The results from panic buying were apparent. There wasn't one rifle and any associated item in the store. I am friends with the owner and he took a moment to tell me that ammunition has...

A story for a cold winters night

I have climbed at the Gunks, Jenny Jump and Rick's. I have bouldered the Sourlands and left chalk on many big city walls. I even free climbed a few iron railroad trestles, but I have never put an ax into any hanging ice. Ice, especially big ice, has always scared me. There are to many inherent...

My experience with the 10/22 is as long as the feed lips on the magazine are metal you should be fine. I have spent a large amount of money to have seventeen round magazines (140mm) blocked by Dawson just to allow them into the state. I shoot handguns for the most part. Any new legislation on...

My Nyquil and fever charged rant last night had a valid point buried somewhere in the ramble. The consequences from any ban is that there is always an unintentional area where the new laws carry over and cause an undesirable effect in an area contrary to what was the purpose of the law. This...
