    Emson or Switlik Bogs

I will have stop in to the Historical Society of New Egypt, next time I drive by and they are open. Somebody there will know for sure. Hopefully they have old photographs available. I would love to see pictures of the village and its hotel along Colliers Lake when it was a resort area.

    Pinks are up....

It didn't take them very long at all to bloom.

Some good news for Webb's Mill - Rose Pogonia will be blooming shortly! Today there were multiple plants in bud.:)

    Emson or Switlik Bogs

I have always been curious to the origins of the decaying cranberry bogs above Colliers Lake. The area around these bogs was cleared by a prescribed burn this spring, revealing several canals and the dikes built to contain one of the bogs. Even though Colliers Mills is considered the fringe of...

My first Orchid of the season

Oji, did you happen to notice the color variation of the Grass Pink? Two plants are white with just the slightest hint of pink in the highlights. The flowers on the pair take on a different appearance with that color combination. What a beaut!

    They're heere...

Lebanon was very bad. The moment I stepped out of the truck, they were on me. The swamp areas are already horrible. Hopefully it is an early peak, but who knows. I agree, with Boyd and Bob, that the seasons are going through a different cycle. Again, who knows what will happen this summer.

My first Orchid of the season

Thanks again Oji! I had to be careful yesterday morning because of the amount of foot traffic by the hole you pointed out to me. All I saw was small tight buds, nothing was in bloom. One hot day makes that much of a difference. I laughed out loud when I saw the "other" location. I was looking to...

    They're heere...

They were brutal this afternoon and evening. I used Off on top of my Permethrin coated clothes and the combo held the flies at bay. They still used me like a pylon at an air race though, swarming around me lap after lap. I don't think I would have lasted long if I wasn't using any chemicals for...

    Waterproof Camcorder

Manumuskin, check out the GoPro HD. It is a great camera that can take a beating! The camera is used by many active photographers. If you shop around you can find it for under three hundred dollars. http://gopro.com/products/?gclid=CJPNvZ2vnLACFUSK4AodNEK6ag

Quarry pools/clay pits/sand mines in NJ

Borrow, mooch, beg, scrounge, or buy a kayak/canoe and go have a blast in any moving water you can find! There are no headaches if you choose this route. What can be said if you "tip" your boat???;)

Poor Peggy Clevenger: Murder or Just an Accident?

Thanks, Ben. I saw the location on the map, and for some reason, was expecting more to it. I'm finally starting to understand, that life in the Pines, from train stations to furnaces and so on, was much more simple than I sometimes imagine.

Poor Peggy Clevenger: Murder or Just an Accident?

It has probably been discussed many times here, but where exactly was the Buckingham station mentioned in the article? Was it an actual structure or more or less a whistle stop?

    Red Belly Turtle

Very cool! I think that turtle was picked up and moved several times yesterday! It is the same turtle that Teegate and I came across in the middle of the road. I can tell by the shape of the black blotch on the bottom, front left of her shell.

    Friday Failed Frog Find

Teegate, that serious hike in to the Arethusa reminded me of how much of a worn out turd I am at the end of the week. I had a blast and it was well worth the effort. ;)

    Friday Failed Frog Find

Teegate airlifting the turtle he found in the road to safety. This one will live another day?

    Pinks are up....

I stopped by the Mills today and what a surprise! The first pile of brush was moved to the other side of the road! Somebody (somebodies?) was motivated and worked hard to move that mound of brush. Way to go!

My first Orchid of the season

Thanks Oji. I happened to have off yesterday and went to visit friends in Blairstown. I stopped into a used book store on Main Street and by chance found a like new copy of Hough's book hidden on a shelf. I walked away with it for twenty-five dollars, with the all of the additions stapled...
