And you thought chiggers were bad?

No worries, there is a river seperating New Jersey from the rest of the country. How can they cross the Deleware when it is always close to flooding and a raging, swirling mass?

    Epizootic hemorrhagic disease

I had diner at a friend's house this week. Her house is located on Rt 518 in Hopewell. The woods smelled so bad that they haven't been able to open the windows. There aren't any adult deer in the area either. I also saw that many younger fawns perished to because they weren't able to care for...

    Jersey Devil

Oh brother. I feel dumber now just from watching that video. :confused:It is another pseudo reality show that never finds anything. I appreciate legends and stories but don't treat them as being real, even if they are loosely based on historical fact.

    Tylertown To The Tulpehocken

Teegate, thank you very much for the tip on the location of the Gentian(s). I found the flower first thing this morning but it wasn't open yet. I took a few pictures and explored the surrounding area until the sun was higher. It was well worth the wait! I now have another favorite. The flowers...

    Tylertown To The Tulpehocken

I was confident it was in the Heath family, but I couldn't judge it's size or scale. I have yet to see a Gentian in person yet. They are so beautiful. The second photo of Teegate's, makes it almost appear to be made of glass.

Bigfoot sighting...i swear it wasn't me

I enjoy his descriptions of what he is experiencing. They are simple and clear, with very little embellishment. One can envision exactly what Proennecke was seeing as he was writing in his diary. Don't expect Thoreau.

Bigfoot sighting...i swear it wasn't me

If you can find the book titled 'One Man's Wilderness: An Alaskan Odyssey', it is a great read. The book is Proenneke's journal and contains some his photography. His story is amazing.

$17 Million Spent to Preserve Open Space Surrounding Joint Base

I hope that the base doesn't put up a fence that adds to "the land behind the fence". A large area surrounding the new Guard building on Rt 539 was sectioned off in the last few years. The area butts up against Colliers Mills behind the Bomarc Missile Base.

    Wisconsin cranberry harvest under way

Correct me if I am wrong but aren't bogs an area of wet, spongy and acidic substrate while a marsh is a soft, low-lying wetland. Marsh could be correct in this sense. I can't see how the tractor isn't damaging a portion of the cranberries.

    UARS Satellite Reentry

The first link now has a final update of the reentry location. I wonder how much of the six tons was gold? It is used for wiring, connections and heat shielding.

A Stone, A Snake, And A Few Other Tidbits

The Violet Cort is edible but it looks better than it tastes. It has no distinguished flavor but I have read that they can taste like button mushrooms found in stores. They are similar in appearance to the Cortiarius iodeoides which is inedible.

A Stone, A Snake, And A Few Other Tidbits

Viscid Violet Cort Mushrooms are edible, but they don't appear appetizing to me. Beautiful coloring on it's cap. It is nice that somebody was out this weekend. I was trying to catch up on yard work and preparing for winter. The rain has me behind schedule like everyone else. I've done the Curley...

Bunch of new outdoor products from Garmin

Are we expecting to much from our hand helds? I use a Delorme 40 and even though it has incredible lock on, I to run into the inaccuracies that everyone else does. It might be a combination of errors that cause our problems. http://www.roseindia.net/technology/gps/sources-of-GPSe-error.shtml

    Tuckers Island returns?

Thanks 46er :). I have a better grasp of it now. I live so far way I wonder at times if my view of the situation is wrong. It doesn't impact me directly and I like to hear how others see things.
