    4 Rattlesnakes Along a Road

Boyd, I'm never bothered by chiggers, ticks or poison ivy. When I was in my teens I had so much poison and so many run-ins with chiggers that I immune to the two of them now. For all I know it might be the amount of permetherin and imidacloprid in my system from doing pesticide applications as...

    4 Rattlesnakes Along a Road

This is why I am always hitting my head and running into things when I am hiking. I am always looking down trying to avoid the two things I don't want to step on, rattlesnakes and yellow jackets. It isn't fear just concern. I'm a big baby with spider web too. A foot up you say! I need to stop...

    Impassible roads

The pipes I was asking about are one and the same. I happened to glance at them when I was leaving and didn't think about what I saw until this evening.

    Development in Mt Misery??

Thanks Teegate! How awesome is that. :) This forum is a great source for obscure information.

    Impassible roads

Teegate, did you happen to see the clay pipes that were exposed along the side of the first puddle after you cross the bridge by the packing house foundation? The pipes were exposed along the edge that was next to the field, right below the grass line. This was up from the area were we chatted.

    Development in Mt Misery??

Woodjin, when you say strange green boxes do you mean large like what is knocked over at Washington (2'x3'x5') or small like what is located by the base of the hill the tower was located on in Bear Swamp (1'x6"x6"). I was just curious, thanks.

    Epizootic hemorrhagic disease

Biting flies.;) Midges are very tiny and could fit through the screen on your porch but pack a nasty bite. (aka No-see-ums)

    Development in Mt Misery??

Thanks for the great information. The state also did studies of natural revegetation of land that had been cleared in this area (Mt Misery). These studies were done on land that at one time was orchards. I thought this area was part of that but the grid pattern was visible decades earlier. The...

    NJ Wild Outdoors Expo

The Lakota Preserve is way cool. When the wolves start howling together that is something to hear. I got goosebumps just thinking about it.:) The Preserve usually has a few of there wolves at the Hunterdon County 4H Fair. I gave a small donation and I got to sit with one wolf for a few minutes...

    NJ Wild Outdoors Expo

There are some great organizations involved from what is listed. The expo should be very good. I was hoping to see The Lokata Wolf Preserve or The Raptor Trust on there as well. None the less it looks to be a fun time.

    Impassible roads

It was a glitch on my end and my lack of posting abilities. Thanks, Guy, I stumbled through it. Is this color a dark phase? No, I didn't take the rattler either and I don't mean to hijack the thread.:) Your welcome dragoncjo.

    Impassible roads

Yes, I have photos of what was left of it. I only had a moment to take everything in because I startled the hawk. It was on a pine that fell over and I came into the clearing behind it. Immediatley it took off with the snake in its grasp. The snake wasn't very big but thick. I would say...

    Chatsworth General Store

The hotdog stand across the street was busy today. Cars and motorcycles were parked everywhere. The general store looks like it always did but with no lights on. I think they need to put the hotdog stand in the general store. ;) Makes sense, no?

    Impassible roads

Most of the roads in the area are suffering to say the least. From what I saw it was from the culverts inabilities to handle the amount of water and the fact that they are set in sand. Simply, they washed out. On a positive note, the forest was in great shape. Some blow downs here and there, but...

    Impassible roads

I am hoping erosion exposed some things that could be hidden along the banks and the rains might have washed the sand away exposing something new. If it is ugly in that are and I'll just head over to Parker Preserve. I don't mind getting lost for the day there. Honestly, I haven't been out...

    Impassible roads

Thanks for the information. I am going to be hiking the Hampton Park area tomorrow. I was hoping the waters from the storm exposed some new finds in the old bogs and surrounding areas. I think I will play it safe and park just off of Carranza Road.
