Fire in Greenwood Forest Ocean County Near Jones Road

It was strange. The smell of smoke was strong at 7am, but by 8am it dissipated. Then as I was pulling into Stone Harbor coming from the Parkway I could see a white hazy smoke in the air and could smell it. I’m guessing that smoke is coming from the fires in Ocean County.

Fire in Greenwood Forest Ocean County Near Jones Road

I live in Cape May County and when I woke up this morning I jumped out of bed because the smell of smoke was so strong I thought my house was on fire. Not sure if that smoke is drifting in from Ocean County or Cumberland County.

Shop-Rite is now using facial ID

I work in high end vacation homes along the coast and they all have smart technology. The homeowner might live hundreds of miles away, but they can watch me through their cameras and they can hear anything I say. Their security system keeps a record of what time I arrive in the morning, when I...

Shop-Rite is now using facial ID

I went grocery shopping at the Shop-Rite in Marmora, NJ after work yesterday and as I was walking inside there was a TV screen above the entrance door with my face on it and a sign that said, “We use facial ID.” I’m not a fan of using this technology to combat shop lifting. It infringes on...

    GEICO Insurance

Does anybody buy the optional PIP insurance? I never do because it’s $400+ a year in additional in premiums, but I know an attorney who tells me that’s a huge mistake. He claims if you don’t have PIP and somebody hits you and you end up with debilitating back and neck pain that prevents you from...

    GEICO Insurance

I have had GEICO for four years. Started at $800 a year and am now up to $1,330 a year. No tickets, accidents or claims. In fairness, I think all auto insurance has gone up. I’m still paying less with GEICO today than I was with NJ Manufacturers five years ago.

Real ID - do you have one?

Agreed. I had to show my birth certificate, social security card, firearms ID card, bank statements, credit card statements and utility bills…and they have my fingerprints on file. That should be sufficient.

Real ID - do you have one?

The ID and background checks needed to get a handgun permit in NJ is much more stringent than what they’re asking for to get a real ID. It would be nice if they accepted my handgun permits as verification for a real ID. I have already had my background investigated by law enforcement more times...

Real ID - do you have one?

I figured I would get one after the deadline when they have appointments available. Just my luck though, I had an unexpected cancellation with a client in June which opened up a few weeks for me to visit with family in Florida…but now I can’t fly there without a real ID. I should have enough...

EZPass scam - don't fall for this one

You’re right, but it felt good verbally abusing scammers.

Weird low frequency rumbling yesterday afternoon

Judging by the condition of my Amazon order, that rumbling noise was probably caused by the USPS throwing boxes onto my driveway.

EZPass scam - don't fall for this one

I got the same text. I think they’re hacking EZ Pass because I have Massachusetts EZ Pass and the text I received said it was sent by Massachusetts EZ Pass. Mine was sent with the number +63, which is the Philippines. It’s probably not a good idea to respond to scammers but it annoyed me...

Is that a turtle in your pants, or....?

That brought back a childhood memory I had forgotten. Me and my brother would always pester our mother to buy us those little turtles every time we went into a store that sold them. Their life span in our care was usually just a few days. My mom would be cleaning and move the couch, a chair or a...

Is that a turtle in your pants, or....?

He should have put a little sign on it that said “Service Turtle” and just held it in his hands.

    Home Made Beef Jerkey

Wow, that’s nice! You’ll love it. You’re going to be the most popular guy in the neighborhood. Unless you can run your smoker as low as 145 degrees, which is usually not the case with most smokers, you might consider buying a warning cabinet. I use a Rovsun. Good size and function, and it only...

    Missing Woman

Sad. This is a nightmare for the family not knowing what happened. It’s like a painful wound that never heals.

    Home Made Beef Jerkey

It depends on what I’m cooking. For chicken I tend to use fruitwood like apple and cherry. For ribs I’ll use almost anything. For brisket and pork butt I’ll usually go with post oak, hickory or mesquite. I used pecan for the first time with the beef jerky. It imparted a really heavy smoke...

    Home Made Beef Jerkey

I did a turkey breast for the first time a few weeks ago. Put some brisket rub on it and smoked it to 140 degrees. Then I wrapped it in foil and puts several pats of butter on it. Pulled it at 165 degrees and rested it for 20 minutes. It was good! Nice and juicy with a hint of smoke flavor on...
