I just got back from a hike up the west bank of the Skit. Only one set of squirrel tracks, everyone else is hunkered down.

    Fox hounds

Mounted fox hunting is still very much alive in NJ. I started hunting with the Monmouth County Hunt back in 1981. They are located in Allentown NJ and hunt primarily the Assunpink. We consider ourselves fox chasers and do not wish them harm, and BTW the fox is really smarter than those dumb...

    Fox hounds

Yes, and he seemed to be alone. I run into fox hunters occasionally. I spent quite abit of time talking to 2 older men out by Friendship last month. They had 2 old pickups with home made kennels in the beds, lots of hounds. They are fox chasers not hunters. They enjoy the chase and the music...

    Fog

I would add, fog is not a visual experience. If I wear glasses the condensation will blind me so I take them off. The heavy air then soaks my eyebrows so I hang my head low. All is a uniform grey with little detail, like viewing through cheese cloth. I feel the trail with my feet and use my...

    Fog

I'm not good with words but I'll try to convey what I feel. Just dead quiet except for the occasional sound as water drips off a branch. You can almost hear the silence, it has a presence. A sence of being alone, the animals are all bedded down and soon it will be my turn in front of a...

    Scat identification

No fur but there was other larger non-white scat with fur in the area in the process of breaking down. We have had many dogs over the decades and we don't clean up after them (acerage) and I've never seen this happen. Given they have different diets.

    Odd sights in the pines

Here are some out of place items I found reciently while wandering off the trail. A barrel hoop 10 feet up in a cedar. Must have been a long time ago. A porcelan bowl 8 feet up in a pine. An old drum, with bottels and cans inside. Makes me wonder who, when, why.
