There was a congressman from Florida on the Homeland Security committe on CSPAN this morning. After a hearing on this subject, he kept talking as if he was not in the federal government: "they have to get a handle on this...some of these agencies need to have more money to deal with this....etc...

My first thought; where the hell is Homeland Security in this situation? I recall when they were created thinking; oh boy, another inflated beauracracy that won't be able to get out of its own way to meet these emerging challenges. But that was what they were created for! As soon as they formed...

Yes, I have never seen Arethusa growing in any medium other than sphagnum. Not sand, not dirt, not mud. Same with Xyris chapmanii.

Yes, a lot of plants use that method. I 'think' maybe even one of the rarest does; Chaffseed. But are you sure that sphagnum shares nutrients with Arethusa? It makes sense, but never heard that before.

This is on the margin of the pines, sort of. Oak/pitch pine/laurel, etc. Typical for much of the land in the pines. This is two photos of the same wall looking both directions, and I mashed them together. In my area. Maybe someone from my area can nail it down. Wall is about 12 to 16 feet tall.

I think that is right next to the area where I told someone I'd get to the top of that higher point.
