I found the exact place, yes. This is my track. Dash, you did not have a GPS, did you? It appears that as you saw the wall of shrubs and briar, you kept moving (subconciously maybe--we do it all the time) until you saw an opening, and you assumed you had the right place. More after dinner.

The shadow is making it look darker. After all, it's nothing but a shadow, which means something is blocking the sunlight. The most likely cause of the shadow is that log. This time of year the sun is low, you know.

What I meant by "you can still see the water behind the shadow" is simply my way of proving that it's not a solid object, otherwise it should not show the water.

I still don't see in that photo (of the spot where the raised berm meets the marsh) an "almost vertical dark thing". Maybe it's me.

You are pretty good if you can see something vertical on an aerial map with certainty. Did you mean horizontal?

Boyds Map set up measures height. I see the raised area about 5 or 6 feet higher depending upon location.

More of a mish-mash. I think Ducks unlimited (or some such) gave advice on what should be a resevoir and what should be a stream. They used machinery to dig pot holes in many of the bogs to mimic when it was more of a cedar swamp. I'm sure someone knowing more than I will chime in.
