I love info like this. I have National Geo's from the 20's, 30's 40,s and so on up this centery. Not all, but several hundred. There is (If my memory serves me) another one further north that I read about....in Natl Geo some scientists visited it. Here's a video I think about the one you posted.

They don't have to be state owned. When Ocean County bought the Forked River mountains, I suggested at a meeting that they designate this pit area off Lacey Road as an ORV park....300 acres of severely disturbed upland. Guess who from NJCF at the meeting shouted NO the loudest.

I will address the substance of what you are saying. I have never seen the DEP close a road in any state forest or WMA over concern for the demise of an animal crossing a road or lying in the road. In fact, I'm more likely to see a citizen proudly showing the public how they helped an animal get...

Read between the lines folks. Somebody is grooming us to accept road closures due to wildlife issues without explanation.

That's an unfair twist on Ben's point (carried into his follow-on paragraph); that even though they are outlaws, they are not necessarily tearing up the environment by driving recklessly through the woods and breaking their own trail.
