    Fire Camera

No, I think your first suggestion is correct Al after I've thought about it. I'm possibly going back to that area tomorrow to see if I can get in from the other side. Join me if interested. Here on the upper Plains Branch.

    Pine Barren History Shorts

Good one Guy. Do you recall that after one of the big fires caused by the Navy at Warren Grove, that the sand company tried to sue for a ridiculous amount of money, saying the fire damaged the ground, causing a great loss to him?

You may be right Al. The only thing bothering me is the "bright orange" part. I would lean towards brown.

Very often, the seeds of the new pine that exploded off the heated cones is still attached to the young plant.

    Fire Camera

Does anyone know what these brown dragon flies are named? I did not have the patience to get a good photo. They were very abundant along the stream, fighting each other and zooming around. And only this one specie. What was great was there were no pine flies. I assume the fire destroyed their...

    Fire Camera

And that was a controlled fire. Imagine the heat on that windy day of the big fire this year. I was out there yesterday. The regeneration is well underway.

    Turtle Eggs

Guy, I don't think it was your fault. It was just a freak coincidence that he pulled out of his lane just as you hit the gas. A one in ten thousand rarity. But yes, you should have looked right if you did not, but still you might have gone anyway even if you had looked. He pulled out when you...

    Exploring Streams In Lacey Today

Funny you mention that Al. No, it's one of those streams that flow through a historical jumble of cedar logs. At one point the stream narrowed down to 3 feet wide. I said to Guy, "that's gotta be deep". So, we took a dead cedar snag and sunk it in to the bottom (in between the historical logs)...

    RAIN?

It hailed twice here last night. Last year, in late spring I put a wood box frame I made on my skylight when we had several weather threats. I decided to keep it on all summer since it also helped keep the house cooler. I put that box on 3 weeks ago again, and glad I did. It's staying on all...

    Exploring Streams In Lacey Today

It was a really good day. I wish Guy would retire already! This is Guy in a spot the likes of which I've never seen before. Although you cannot see them, there are about 4,000 tufts of Pine Barren Reed Grass here. Latin name Calamovilfa brevipilis. Usually, this grows in large clumps, but here...

That is very cool and interesting. Why did they not construct a way to put the iron vessel above the fire?
