    2019 First Day Hikes

40, yikes! I love it when PBX hikes are 6-8. More than 12 is no longer a hike among close friends. What was the drama with the unconventional vehicles?

    Ticks & Chiggers--a study

I was down in Chestnut Neck today. Picked up 8 ticks. They were moving slow, thankfully. They were all deer ticks, also called black-legged ticks. Responsible for many diseases. I never knew they were down below the Mullica. This is a female.

Artesian well north of Lower Forge

Zach, in my opinion, if someone makes it that far into the woods, he does not have an intent of theft on his mind. He's there for the woods. Of course there is an exception to every rule, but I'd say the chances are slim. The would-be robber would be thinking "maybe this guy has a gun and if I...

    The end of Garmin Basecamp

I actually only use aerials on this GPS. It is interesting to note though, that a friend gave me topo maps, and I did install them (about 4 years ago), but they came up blank on the GPS. I thought it was just a glitch, and since I don't really use them anyway, I ignored it and did not try to...

    The end of Garmin Basecamp

Boyd, you say above the 'current' version of Basecamp won't sent maps to your device. I have Ver. 4.7.0. Can I assume you mean a different version?

Artesian well north of Lower Forge

I'm thinking it's not a "well" in common terms, but likely the sphagnum and duff and a bit of sand was scooped out to allow the water that usually occurs on the river slopes to pool in a spot and then flow free over the rim.

    RAIN?

Yeah, it just seemed like a lot to me. But still, 2" is a lot of rain.

    RAIN?

I think the estimated amount of rain will increase. It looks like a train of rain is on its way.

    A Day Of Revisiting

Ted's in his foul weather gear today. I was out in a sweat shirt. It was a beautiful day for exploring.

I really like having the lidar on Ben's site since you can jump back and forth to 7 other maps/aerials with ease. I don't care about road names anyway.

I think I gave you that map to keep, if I recall. No need to return it. It means more to you than me considering your interests.

    Atsion Road 1913

Very interesting post Guy. Note that the before photo shows travel only by horse and wagon (actually it's just a guess).

    Then & Now Photos

Now I"m confused. In the above link, I said: "You are indeed correct. Well done! Your assumption beat mine. I thought at first it was the road behind the sand plant by Bamber. This road is called Bloody Ridge Road." Now I don't recall whether I meant the road behind the Bamber sand plant was...
